What is going on with Suunto?
-
Has Suunto discontinued support for the 9 Peak? There have been no updates for ages. Seriously, what is going on with Suunto? I mean, I’ve been a big fan for many years, but nothing significant has come up in too long while the competition keeps pushing. The 9 peak pro just doesn’t deliver enough to be called a new flagship. The 7 is not a sports watch. Long battery life has long been a must have and not an exclusive selling point. But even if you ignore all that, why Suunto does not manage to at least bring the interfaces of the watches to modern standards.
My wife has also been a Suunto customer for many years, but this year she defected to another brand. She feels that the company is not up to snuff. I don’t want to have to follow her as well.
What do you guys think out there?

@Markus
if you follow the recent discussions in this forum you will see that Suunto has been busy and postponed the “summer update”, that majority obviously got used to.
Quick summary: Suunto maintains recent watches as good as possible and if hardware allows. -
@Markus I’m not from suunto, but the update should be coming soon - the reason for the delay is introduction of new things under the hood. If you’re running beta version of Suunto App you might have noticed introduction of Suunto Plus Store - the way to introduce new features (also from 3d parties) without the need to roll out a firmware update.
Other points of yours are subjective, for me s9pp is a very nice watch and I’d be tempted if my S9 was a year older or so.
Also, from what I hear, another suunto watch with bigger screen/battery and multiband GPS might be on the horizon.

@freeheeler thank you for that. I am sorry I’m new here and was not aware of that discussion. thank your again.

@Markus
no worries there’s a lot to read about recent evolvement. most interesting might be the interview you’ll find in the “recent” topics titled with Q&A… let me find the link: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/8329/interview-q-a-with-suunto -
@freeheeler thank you so much!
-
update is inbound fyi
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I’m quietly waiting for it
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos is there any changelog to read somewhere? it’s a pity it’s not available anymore.
-
@Soojong-Moon Same here
-
@gi0vanni everything has already been discussed in the forum, but the main update is making the new S+ apps work. A short summary will be published on Suunto’s website when released, as usual.
-
@gi0vanni what do you mean not available anymore ?
-
@isazi I try to read almost everything but I miss things here and there. A recap would be welcome when released (both app and fw).

What’s the meaning of “inbound” in this context? Which month?
-
@Mitch9 should be November.

Which year?
Uff that is 2-3 days… Getting excited.
-
@Ketoohs In the past it seemed that Suunto likes Tuesdays and Thursdays… Which doesn’t leave us with many options… Only one in fact
-
@isazi I’ve never seen such a specific release date before!
-
@suzzlo we should know on Wednesday if this time the release date is correct. I see that at Suunto all devs and others are working on the watches and the app to make everything ready for this and future releases.

@freeheeler As much I love Suunto, this statement about maintaining watches as good as possible if hardware allows is rather sad to hear for a watch released a little over a year ago. Would be fair if it concerned the Spartan series but for 9 Peak, rather disappointing.
