Software Firmware Update Suunto Vertical?!
-
@Tieutieu I got my SV back after 3 weeks in Service (the second replacement unit) with the following feedback: the unit was inspected and no problem was found. The crashing you are experiencing are due to a known SW bug when using TrainingPeaks with Stryd Footpod. I had crashes without one of them (only TP without pod) but who am I do judge the circumstances.
It would’ve been nice since it was a known issue to be informed and not send the watch for 3 weeks though. So I am waiting patiently (~5 months) for the fix.
One other thing I had with the second unit is that it crashed out of activity after basically 10 mins i had the unit turned on and then the first activity had this terrible gps track until it crashed again (mid run). Sent it to service and now after I received the watch (it was not reset or anything) went for a short 5k without anything turned on basically and the gps track was teribble again (I had synced and checked the agps file and waited for 5 mins before run). It suddenly shifted the whole track 30 - 50 m mid run and then at some point it kinda stabilized. Compared to the FR965 (SatIQ on auto) it had 140m more on a 5k run.
Since I am not used to such bad tracks from the first SV unit I did hard reset and went to run again without anything connected or any S+ and the track at least was much better (only 10m more than the FR965) so it should be good. I will run a longer run today so wish me luck -
@EzioAuditore let’s hope the update will fix the issues you have !
(Indeed I’m not using stryd neither training peak so I don’t have this issue.)
For the gps distance, my SV is spot on, also when comparing to other Suunto watches or other brands -
@Tieutieu So the second (post reset) run was spot on. 10k and it went smooth. This time I had Suunto workout (intervals) and fat burn enabled and was navigating the screens to compare with the FR965. All in all very good (as were my initial impressions of the watch without the pod). I have noticed that there is a small discrepancy when taking turns (90 degrees) between the watches. But this has always been a problem for Garmin (albeit huge one in the F6x) where after a turn the watch struggles a bit to find the pace. Therefore 50m difference between the SV and the FR965 in 10k is quite good. And I am sure the SV is more precise (of course the FR is not best quality but SatIQ). All in all it was a nice tempo run

@isazi I just noticed… it‘s November

It would be epic for the new update to arrive tomorrow. Remember, remember the 5th of November the gunpowder treason and plot…

So the joy lasted only until the 4th run. Structured workout with aerobic decoupling, 2,5h target and External HR everything else on default (even the spprt mode was Running basic). Right hand SV left FR965 (Stryd connected to it since this was apparently the issue with the SV, 8 different data screens and streaming music). 20 mins in the run vibration on the SV that i assumed was the aerobic decoupling being computed. After less than a minute boom crash and back to watchface. Quicly press up button to restart activity with everything on default. ~20 min later boom another crash. I started laughing mid run. FR on the other hand was still doing the job it was supposed to do plus million others. So its one of my last posts here i will be leaving the crap Suunto has become and enjoy training issue free. Meanwhile wish to all of you health above all and problemless trainings. Oh and i wish you some FW update when and if it ever comes. I guess next step is to be annualy release since, hey it has to be tested. To the testers: please choose some extra options in the watch not just start stop an activity and pat yourself on the back how everything is good and smooth. Its not. Suunto lost an fanboy that persuaded a bunch of other people buying it. I will now do just the opposite. Cheers guys!

@EzioAuditore It is really bad cause i had same problems… I still hope that a new Software Update will change all problems. But If not perhaps i have to change to another brand too.
-
@EzioAuditore sad to see you go, I remember (with another nick) how you were really rooting for Suunto, but what they are doing with firmware updates is beyond critic for me. Some bugs were solved already in August, but Suunto is so stubborn and do rarely publish bugfixes only. I think this is really sad I really do not know what is going thru their minds. Publish bugfixes asap, and new (improved) functions as you wish, if you wish. I think most users want stable watch, not all the gimmicks possible (as some here states).

@EzioAuditore
we do test multiple different settings with prototype firmware and also with my own production watch, also with settings that give users grief to double check if it could be an undiscovered potentially systematic issue.sorry to see you’re leaving unhappy.
finally everyone needs to enjoy sports with what we like and prefer and we trust in.stay healthy and happy

Maybe a monthly hotfix release would be a good idea.

@Likarnik no update in August you wrote Update in August… Cannot see a August update in Suunto Homepage! The last Update for Vertical was in JUNE… Screenshot_2023-11-05-17-26-52-105_org.mozilla.firefox.jpg

@Likarnik where is your update you wrote? In August was no Update
-
I still have problems with sleeptracking. I did sleep for 7 hours using my fitbit and it worked as it should, but the Vertical just shows 3.41 hours. Have changed my resting heart rate to
Just have to wait for the update and hope it helps.

@GiPFELKiND not official update. Just read posts from testers (back in summer). It’s already solved in test firmware, soon
-
@EzioAuditore Man, I’d hate to see you go. Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

@Likarnik how to become a tester?

@Likarnik how to become a tester?
I am searching the answer since i got my first suunto and since i met some people in movescount android app forum
-
@Mff73 So, essentially, it’s impossible
-
@avn3r90 Maybe reconsider…
From what I have heard being a field tester comes with a lot of responsibility. Yes, you get the latest firmware which solved some of the bugs, but potentially introduce new ones. I can imagine some of your activities get lost or corrupted because of the new firmware. But that’s life for a tester.If you value your activity and the data I would suggest you just stick to the production firmware. Maybe it’s not flawless, but it’s the best available.
@real_fieldtesters, please correct me if I’m wrong
