wrong barometric pressure calculated
-
Hello,
I was hiking few days ago in the mountain regions.
The watch displayed very high barometer pressure
1024-1025-1026hPa and even with hailstorm and thunderstorm upon me, still it displayed this high pressure
I looked into the sample.json of the activity and used an online sea level calculator to calculate the sea-level pressure based on what the watch reported as absolute pressure and altitude and i see there is a huge difference.
Also i take 2 samples 3hours apart the sea level pressure dropper 5hpa and the watch should have triggered a storm alarmFirst sample:
,{“Attributes”:{“suunto/sml”:{“Sample”:{“AbsPressure”:89356,“Altitude”:1145.1999999999998,“Cadence”:null,“Distance”:20,“Power”:null,“SeaLevelPressure”:102380,“Speed”:null,“Temperature”:304.5,“VerticalSpeed”:0}}},“Source”:“suunto-231910003406”,“TimeISO8601”:"2023-09-03T09:44:37.040+
this is at 9.44 start of hike.
reported sea level pressure is 1023.8. We have abs pressure 893.56 at altitude 1145.19 and 30.4 degress reported.
if i use this site https://keisan.casio.com/exec/system/1224575267 and i input the abs pressure and alti i get 1,014.93hPA which is more accurate from my point of view as the weather was very cloudy. The watch was reported 1023.8 which usually means clear skies
Second sample:
{“Attributes”:{“suunto/sml”:{“Sample”:{“AbsPressure”:84124,“Altitude”:1660,“Cadence”:0.73299999999999998,“Distance”:4644,“Power”:null,“SeaLevelPressure”:102538,“Speed”:1.2,“Temperature”:299.32999999999998,“VerticalSpeed”:0.080000000000000002}}},“Source”:“suunto-231910003406”,“TimeISO8601”:"2023-09-03T11:30:06.040+
at 11.30(after 2hours and 4.66km )
reported sea level pressure: 1025.38(increased compared to 9.44) but the weather was clearly getting worse )
using same calculator i get 1,011.1hPA which indeed reflects the weather getting worse as a storm was approaching
Third sample:
{“Attributes”:{“suunto/sml”:{“Sample”:{“AbsPressure”:82702,“Altitude”:1802,“Cadence”:0.93300000000000005,“Distance”:7635,“Power”:null,“SeaLevelPressure”:102557,“Speed”:1.8200000000000001,“Temperature”:295.36000000000001,“VerticalSpeed”:0.02}}},“Source”:“suunto-231910003406”,“TimeISO8601”:"2023-09-03T12:11:27.040+03
after 2h 30min of hiking(storm was near us and we decided to turn back) watch reports pressure of 1025.27…clear skies
using same calculator with 827.02hPa reported by watch barometer at 1802m alt and 29.5 temp i get:1,009.74hPA
So at 2h and 30min apar the pressure which i calculated dropped 5hpa(from 1014.93 to 1009.74) and should have triggered a storm alarm.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Radu
