… all the software is made only for runners, without any possibility of changes.

I will say I don’t run (unless I am being chased) and I use the software for various activities that I do. Mountain biking? yes. Hiking? Yes. Boxing? Yes. Rowing? yes.

I asked the forums on how to get my Vertical to work with my activities that I do; chances are there is someone else that knows. Many users showed me a way to look at it differently and have been more than helpful.

I would strongly suggest not to throw out blanket statements of frustration as that is kind of a rule of life, ask but be polite.

But, I have a question. Are there people on the Suunto team who actually read all our requests, ideas or bugs? It’s just curiosity.

Because if not, what good are all our ideas and requests here?

I think there are enough folks that interact with Suunto on the forum to pass ideas on and to pass on significant bugs. I know several testers that frequent this forum and other Facebook groups who report forum bugs to Suunto, as do I. For example, the sync bug is a serious recent issue that seems particularly elusive, unfortunately.
Testers can report ideas as well, I have used responses from forum users to enhance an idea for firmware that I think myself and many users would benefit from.
The field testers can report and suggest but we do not know if or whether our ideas influence development or how the bugs we report are incorporated into development.
So, keep the ideas coming! And, forum users find bugs the testers did not encounter even though we find a lot of them. So, the input is very helpful IMHO when multiple users report similar bugs and when improvements suggestions are specific and constructive.

@Todd-Danielczyk I gave specific examples (autopause, Lap button and most SuuntoPlus) are designed with runners in mind. I don’t want to take anything from anyone.
I will repeat once again: I wrote about the possibility of changing the function of one key from the rigidly assigned Lap function to several options to choose from. For other activities, something else would be more useful: e.g. a location record, a compass, a widget, a map, an elevation chart, whatever.
Where does this hysteria come from? The Suunto software has a lot of stupid limitations and it would be nice to provide some settings that are more useful for other activities.
To this day (since Ambit and Traverse) it is not possible to use the compass and GPX route navigation at the same time. Another absurd limitation that should not exist in an outdoor watch.

@maszop Ok, designed with runners in mind. Sure, I would agree with that statement.

Made only for runners. That I cannot agree with.

I can also agree that there would be benefit to letting the watch be more customizable, but if that would mess with the stability of the watch I think that is a very dangerous proposition. I would take a more robust (and proven) ecosystem than one that is fully customizable and creates higher glitch frequencies.

I don’t write code, so it would be very unfair for me to say it would be easy or not to implement. What I can say is I have seen things get very complex the more open software becomes. Stability issues become exponentially higher the more switching you do within the code.

Side note, you get to know me you will see I am very calm so zero hysterics from me. Life is way too short to not enjoy a sunrise, sunset and the time between.

@fobissss I’ve just tried out another watch (after having substituted from Amazon) always Suunto Vertical, and it has the same issues as the previous one. Garmin, I’m arriving!!!

bug fixing requires a bit of patience. I don’t know if you are aware of this process… Suunto cares and fixes bugs, but maybe not within 4 weeks…
I recall my time with Fenix 3, nothing has been fixed during 1.5 years… that’s why I said: Suunto, I’m arriving 🙂

@Frederick-Rochette I would love to see the possibility of creating a POI directly on the map on the watchitself.

                        • sync of fitness data (like training) between multiple watches (when you own two or more it would be nice they are in sync).
                        • multiple Bluetooth sensors and their names (I changed my mind on this 🙂 )
                        • support for Suunto wing from the watch
                        • ClimbPro like feature
                        • low prio: but more customizable watch faces
                        • improvements in HR and SpO2 measurement (I struggle a lot to get Oxygen no matter what I do: not moving, watch not too snug nor loose, 2 fingers rule, etc.)
                        • Suunto guides (AI? Training plans) based on your profile would be top notch.

I find the training side of the watch to be perfect for my needs so not much need there.

My main expectations have not changed :

                          • map improvements (labels, one field data : altitude would the the most appreciated to make map screen fully usefull, level curves up to 500m zoom…)
                          • integrated structured workout screen improvement : I miss so much interval/step counter and 5sec bip countdown between intervalls. On that point Every information is in the app, transmitted to watch, so I thought it only needed integrated app to be updated (independantly from watche’s FW update). But maybe I’m wrong. If not I don’t understand why it as not been “corrected” yet. And If I remember well, it works when structured workout are programmed with intervalls.icu ?
                          • Suunto « climb pro » so elevation profil would become a real tool
                          • some few other things like : navigation improvement (at least smaller font so we can read all the instructions). But since maps where introduced I must admitt that I almost don’t use navigation alerts anymore.

                          Suunto’s devices at home :
                          Vertical titanium solar
                          Suunto Race S
                          S9pp titanium sand
                          Suunto Wing
                          S9B titanium Ambassador edition, A3P, X6

Well, in addition to many of the functionalities that we have all been asking for:

A shortcut to generate a POI.

Because one of the things I miss about my old Polar was that I could go on the fly, pointing out Points of Interest as I went. Well, the truth is that cheating a little. It actually marked a lap, but since later on the activity map you could visualize the point where the lap was marked, for the purposes it served as a shortcut to create POI super quickly.

Now marking with Suunto, marking a POI on the fly doesn’t work for me either on MTB or running, and even if I rush, hiking. You have to fiddle a lot with the dialog box to get to the site. It doesn’t matter to me, no.

Anyway, that would be cool, a way to function as a shortcut to create POI on the fly.

I know this is kind of a wish list here, where ideas for new features are exchanged. But personally, I would expect that they don’t focus on new features, but prioritize bugfixing (most urgent imho are sync issue and breadcrumb issue; for sure there are other relevant bugs as well depending on individual use case).

Would be very frustrating if they present new features instead of fixing some of the major bugs first.

I reported the HR sensor issue to Suunto support and I have to say, they are not really efficient 😕 they proposed to send the watch to tech support while the issue is from their last update.

Just recently I went mountaineering. I had an activity for about 6 hours and when I was returning from the summit I discovered that my breadcrumbs trail in the navigation screen is partially missing.

So basically I didn’t see which way I got to summit.

I remember someone was posting about that and I got a feeling that the issue is well known by Suunto.

So I hope it will be fixed with the next update. It could be actually a question between life and death in some cases.

                                          Here‘s the thread about that:

                                          https://forum.suunto.com/topic/10325/uncomplete-track-during-activity/57

I fully agree with you, track back / breadcrumb is a core function for an outdoor / mountaineering watch. Right now, there’s always half of the track missing which has already been reported to suunto several months ago. So it should be a well known issue.

Someone wrote there that a fix was probably scheduled for the last update, so I hope it will at least come with the next update.
