Having had many watches from different brands, personally I love the simplicity of the Suunto watches. There’s a lot of marketing between tons of metrics that many times do not have sense. Like this one, which is just marketing:

Here is supposed that you are out of stamina after 6 hours and in that ultra and you are running 4 hours more. So yes, that is garbage added to an expensive watch, like the F7 Pro I had. Coros is adding some of those Garmin things (like the stress measurement), and with weird results. I really hope Suunto does not create those things that are pure marketing.I personally bought the Vertical for the real world. And that’s a watch that is accurate (probably the most of the market), with very long lasting battery (best of the market), lightweight (best of the market with that battery lasting), with a good design (personally I think the best of the market with a 1.4 inch panel in 49mm) and, in the case of the Vertical, very premium materials. Having owned very expensive watches, I find the Vertical incredible good.
About the bugs and features, I can see 3 points:
- Bugs. Those should be of course fixed, because were announced things and correct operation is expected. I.E. The step counter seems to count like 3 times the real steps when not on workout (when in workout, i.e, running in the treadmill with no GPS, seems pretty accurate).
- Mixed between bugs and features. I.E. Those things in these forums like the watch not supporting multiple sensors of the same type (cyclists), the alarms between intervals when running (runners) or the wake up alarms for weekdays (people that does not work from monday to friday at the same time, does not work, is retired, work shifts…). These, is good to have them fixed because the functionality of the watch affects several groups of people.
- Features. These are totally free things. We are receaving the “Climb Pro”. This is for free. It’s a nice thing to have, but it’s just another thing. As a trail runner, I’d love to see it but, as said, I bought the watch without expecting that. And I’m happy.
Same goes for those that want music. We bought the watch knowing there was not that feature. Personally I don’t want that thing in my watch. I had it on Garmin and have never used the watch for music.

I have updated the firmware. The 90 hour battery with dual band is a very nice surprise. This watch will probably survive the worst 200 miller I can imagine with dual band enabled and without using the charger. The Fenix is a lot behind, and the Vertical beats clearly the Enduro, which is basically a Fenix with more battery.
The Step Counter seems fixed fixed for me. I need to test it better but, for now, it is not counting steps all time like it was before. Fantastic.It seems broken. It is impossible to have more than 1400 steps at this moment in the morning (in one hour and half since I woke up)
So for the question “What do you expect from the next update?”, I will refer to the next thing:

These should be the next big ones. It is not only cyclists, runners, or the alarms thing to cover all people, but also things that triathletes appreciate. With all the new features added and improvements for those who do trail running, this is the next big piece of the cake. Those things are also a very big opportunity that Suunto should not forget.
But, about the sensors thing, this reviewer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i83Wu-8xjFk&t=38s says that Suunto is already working in a fix (in Spanish, go to 18:40).
Extremely happy with the update. Just to remember the real and the important things, when sport matters.

@dreamer_ if Suunto read your post and effectively fix these points this year it will be awesome, I totally share your view on the features/bugs/mixed segmentation, we were already gifted by this update but multiples sensors and customs alarms will makes me more than happy (because I m already damn happy currently

Great update.
New things will probably require minor corrections and improvements.There are probably only three things left to make the Suunto watches (currently on the market) great:
- contour lines on the map view of at least 500-1000 m,
- support for many sensors of the same type,
- improvements in intervals/structured training options
Any extras such as music or payments (unrealistic at the moment anyway) can be treated as optional (and unwanted for many) gifts from Suunto.

I agree with you, with that little “but”.
The contour lines seems more a feature for me. It’s an improvement but the other ones are more like fixes.

@dreamer_ Current maps without contour lines covering a larger area are often useless in the mountains.
This is unacceptable in this type of watches. These are not smartwatches, but watches designed for various activities, often in the mountains. -
@maszop just to disagree in the unacceptable word. I agree that is an improvement and also that it could be a nice to have, but that’s not a big issue for navigation in my opinion. Navigation does work. It is more an improvement of feature that was not there when we bought the watch.

@Iggge no. Because those are a lot of steps since I woke up. It has no sense to have so many steps. I will recheck at the end of the day but with just one hour and half since I woke up, It seems the issue is still there (at least for me)

@dreamer_ I got no problems here. Sure, it’s not 100% accurate but then again no watch is that. For me it works just fine. The best thing for me is that the watch don’t show 200 steps in the morning after my 6 hour sleep!

Navigation does work, exactly the same as in 9PP. But here we are talking about newer models, about maps in the mountains.
In the mountains, current maps work very poorly and are often useless without contour lines. This is a very serious problem that must be solved. Very often in the mountains the only thing visible on the map are the contour lines.
And it is not without reason that this distinguishes topographic maps from ordinary road maps. -

Try deleting and re adding the complication. Check to see if the widget is not counting. If no steps maybe restart the watch.

Edit: I have reseted also all the data of the watch and re-synced. That means that I have lost today’s steps but I don’t care about that. So I will check tomorroy again -
@Brad_Olwin I get the impression that for you Suunto watches are perfect and nothing is a problem, even bugs. This is a very bad approach especially for someone who seems to be involved in testing.

I am quite happy with the latest update. Progress has been made with the OHR measurement for me. Before it was pretty useless most of the time. Now it is working for running at least 90% of the time. I saw cadence lock one time on my run this AM, but the previous run it was flawless. I’d pretty much given up hope on OHR for the Vertical. Given this was a major concern for me in the past, I am really happy something was done.
I also appreciate the ability to customize complications on the watchfaces, and to have some more to choose from. I am good with the implementation now.
So overall, I like this update - the software team should be happy with this one.I haven’t tried any of the structured training stuff to see if it’s been improved, but fingers are crossed that this is in the works for a future update if it hasn’t been worked.
Also, I filled out a survey some time ago about what features and issues were important to me. I have the feeling that someone at Suunto actually looked at my survey and took it seriously. This left me with a good feeling.
