It is true for all the brands as far as I know.I think this is partly true however it seems Apple Watches and the latest Garmin gen 5 sensor seem to work excellent for the majority of people. The ohr on my vertical is useless
Agree! the OHR sensor in my Fenix 7 is not perfect but good enough in every situation. I sold my Vertical because the OHR sensor was useless (very high heart rate, even more than my max) during the first 10’-15’ minutes each activity…

I still don’t get why people keep on saying “lags” are a “not to go issue”…nobody is all the time navigating trough menus…Maybe I’m too much tolerant VS some users or testers, but I really don’t get that point…Never felt that as “lags”…
Agreed. As long as it’s fast where it counts. When I watch this comparison with the Race, all I see is the ‘lags’ on the Garmin map when rotating:

@elliott First 2 days with the Race. The “lag” is a completely made up issue. The only noticeable lag is when you frantically move from one widget to another. People are used to move their finger fast on the menus of their phone (sometimes without a purpose) so they expect to do the same on a smartwatch. The Race is responsive enough for a typical sport scenario.

@Elliott That’s a great comparison—who cares about a minuscule lag when navigating through menus when the map rotation is so smooth? That Garmin map user experience would drive me bananas when out running, on the other hand…

Only through pushing the crown.As far as I now there is no custom battery mode in the Race for now, so probably the touch screen can’t be activated. But I remember reading on the forum that It should come.

Would like to see this as well (or probably rotating the crown to move through the screens forward and backwards…Yes, if touch screen is disabled, being able to rotate through the screens using the crown seems like a must have (for me at least).
I quite got used to enable and use the touchscreen in all my sport modes. -

Yep, I asked when he was doing his Race review. He responded tomorrow afternoon his time, or Thursday. Fingers crossed it’s tomorrow. Sounds like, from reading the V3 review, that the race gps is better than the V3, but the optical HR is bad during workouts. Worse than Garmin, Polar… -

Why should the test be different from the further tests? The gps was tested very good also for SV. The OHR was tested not so good also for SV. As far as I can read it‘s the the same sensor and gps modul for SV and SR? I don‘t think OHR can get much better with a software update
and as far as I know, the tester stays the same, I think

@SuperFlo75 For GPS the antenna design is very important and different between SR and SV. The GPS accuracy of the SV is slightly better than the one from the SR.
The OHR is the same. However, as the hardware design is different (and the weight) the sensor will work also differently. -

Both have used the exact same chipset in their multi-band watches, yet Garmin’s GPS performance in those dual-frequency watches is universally agreed upon by reviewers as superior. Similarly, when Polar launched their Ignite 3 a year ago with multi-band/dual-frequency), it didn’t do well at all GPS-wise.
Why? Antenna design.
It’s incredibly critical to good GPS reception, particularly in challenging environments.
