New owner of Suunto Race - first feelings

@ChrisA let’s see ! For now I don’t really use alarm on my SV, but, how knows !
But Searching phone could be useful for me sometimes ! -

@Egika I was asking because I read that spo2 is a battery killer, to turn it off if not necessary or in a mountain environment.

While it does not seem to consume a lot of battery, this one definitely is a metric without use for mortals in the lowlands.

Just opened mine.
The Titanium in the Race must be a different alloy than the Vertical. It’s less dark and has a different tint, between beige and light grey.
And of course the initial firmware upgrade takes 60 minutes to complete…
Other than that this watch is just beautiful looking, not even remotely comparable to Garmin watches. It looks like a generation ahead. -
Vertical - Bezel material: Titanium Grade 5
Race - Bezel material: Titanium (not specified what grade it is) -
Titanium - like Aluminum - is almost always anodized, otherwise the surface would not be inert as it is.
The anodization can be done in various colors not affecting the metal alloy structure otherwise. -
To find out more, feel free to send me both SV and SR and I will perform the X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence analysis to get the phase and chemical composition.
It is non-destructive but I will be very tempted to keep both watches afterwards

I believe Suunto is back in the game but I am facing the following bugs with the Suunto race all black:
- Can’t answer/respond to a call through the watch.
- Lagging/Image distortion at map viewing especially at 500m and 250m view.
- Can’t rearrange the date format on watch face.
I hope all of the above to be solved with the next update.

What is the default date format? mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy?
-
@David-Lown can’t change from mm/dd/yyy to dd/mm/yyyy.
-
@Kostas-Zinelis it is a known bug which will be fixed.

Hi everyone, my new Suunto Race titanium arrived yesterday… until yesterday I was using an Enduro 2!!
I have some questions:
•When I put it in do not disturb mode it takes a while before the display turns off.
•When sleeping mode is active, is it possible to see the time without the watch waking up completely, like on the Apple Watch which can only see the time in low light?
Thanks -
@Kostas-Zinelis I am pretty sure you can’t answer calls with it at all. I read it nowhere in the specs! You‘ll get notified about a call, but you would answer via the phone

if used together with an iPhone, you can choose to decline or answer the incoming call, like with Suunto watches before. Of couse you need to speak into your phone after this.

Yes that’s what I meant

I got SR today and now SV feels like a 2 years old watch
-
@lexterm77
really?
I’m using both and I think they’re very similar, despite the screen technology.
I’m frequently using other Suunto watches, toobut we can’t discuss the fact away that the Race IS the newer watch

Received my Race Ti today and I’m very impressed. Finally back to Suunto after a couple of years with Garmin and a few months with Polar! Will be doing a trail long run tomorrow.

First run under my belt with the race. Watch usage is very intuitive and easy to use. No major learning curves. Addition of the dial is a major win. The Race has been tweaked a little and does sit slightly flatter and the lugs do not dig into my wrist bone like the vertical which was my only reason for returning that watch. The watch feels high quality but it does not feel as substantial as the vertical. Not sure why that is. Not a bad thing but feels different. The screen is brilliant. Now for the lag…what lag? This watch is fine. I’m sure if I stared at the watch long enough I’d notice a flicker here and there. Like I’ve said before…stop staring at your watch and get your ass out the door and go for a run. I do also like how they have slightly rounded upper portion of the watch. The vertical looked a little too flat when looking at the watch. Overall great first impressions and excited for Suunto. I can now stop complaining about the shipping delays.
