    Hi,

Today I did a treadmill run. After completing the activity I was able to enter the actual distance recorded by the treadmill, great! The watch said 6 km, while the treadmill stated 7km.

Once in the app the distance 7km and pace was correctly displayed. However, on the watch the activity says 7 km, but pace is still calculated on the 6 km estimate, so the pace is way off (and not the same as in the app).

Should the watch not also re-calculate pace based on new distance? Or at least sync from app?

Important in order to determine which pace zones the activity was conducted in etc.

@isazi Tanks! When I looked in to the issue a bit further, it seems that even if the app updates the average pace so that it corresponds to the manually entered (calibrated) distance, the actual pace per data point (e.g. pace per lap (km)) is not updated. This means that also in the app the pace zones will be incorrectly represented. And thereby, the TSS® incorrectly calculated (making ATL, CTL etc. fail along the way). It should be possible to interpolate (adjust) pace based on correct distance for each time point in the work out.

@isazi is this a new feature? I can’t remember about that in previous models.
If so will we get in SV and S9PP?

@fluca yes, also Vertical and S9PP will be able to modify the distance of some indoor workouts (e.g. treadmill)

@isazi damn!!! This next firmware is going to improve 85% of the things that bothered me in the last years. I hope it will be stable and bug-free as per suunto tradition.
                Well done suunto

@isazi just tested - it’s great, that you can now change the distance after the workout, but before the upload! Did another run a few hours later to see if a second run would yield more accurate distance (first one, was 30% off) and it did (only 100m shorter than treadmill distance). So it seems to calibrate 🙂

@ChrisA So, it’s only entered after the first run on the treadmill or is it possible to correct the distance every time?

For people with a treadmill, I strongly recommend this accessory: https://npe.fit/products/runn

It works very well with Suunto watches as a “foot pod”.
I’ve tested it with the Suunto Race, Vertical, Spartans series and Ambit.

The only downside? There is no way (at the moment) to use the incline value of the sensor on a Suunto watch (available on Garmin with a ConnectIQ Data Field).

But beside that, it provides a super accurate speed measure.

@Pilok I use the Runn on the treadmill and another one on the cross trainer (elliptical trainer) and my Spartan Ultra. I recommend it too.

With a Fenix 6X Pro I use an ir sensor for cadence and a second ir sensor for speed, connected to a raspberry pi and broadcasted to the Fenix 6X Pro with an ant+ dongle.

Unfortunately it is not possible with the Spartan Ultra.

Intervals with active recovery on the treadmill. I like it because of the predefined pace and time I choose with a touch on the cockpit.

Runn, the treadmill sensor, captures the speed and cadence and broadcasts the data via bluetooth to the Suunto Spartan Ultra. Pictures 1 and 2 are showing the data. Cadence is not accurate, but usable.

Picture 3 is showing the real cadence, captured by an IR sensor which is counting the foot steps and broadcasts the data via ANT+ dongle (connected to a Raspberry PI) to a Garmin Forerunner 255. These data are accurate and can be taken for a special cadence training.

Runn gives 170 spm average, the IR sensor 178 spm average, measured over the complete time of the treadmill training.

The Forerunner gives me also the ascent of a treadmill training, because of the Garmin IQ data field for the Runn. This is missing for Suunto watches and a request via email to create a Suunto Plus app was not successful until now.

@pilleus Hi, is it the distance also accurate using this runn sensor? It’s annoying to always manually edit the distance in every session.

@Arie-Rahmadi The distance of the Runn treadmill sensor is exact. You can use it with the standard calibration or calibrate it according to the distance of the treadmill.
