@GiPFELKiND Changing battery modes will change the display. There is no way to change the display except through the General Settings. I ran all day and all night in Performance mode and did not find the display an issue. After a 35h 27 min race my battery estimate was ~42h.

Maybe a dedicated night mode with different and either dulled or red colors to be selectable in the workout options would be a good idea…

This would sound great! But if doing so, please do not take out the possibility to keep the screen on all the time (in workouts). For my opinnion it’s one of the best things in this watch that the display won’t go off during exercise! E.g. on Garmin watches, there is no possibility to have screen always on (without dimming the screen) and constant wrist turns are very annoying. Like if I ride a bike, don’t want to raise my hand off the handlebar just to wake up the screen. 😊

I have a FR965 and always on for activities. No need to turn the wrist at all.
What garmin are you referring to?

@lessthanmore Yea, I have the Epix Pro, you can choose to turn the display off (on with gesture), or always on. No problem at all.

On all garmin amoled watches, yes you can set always on for sports BUT the display dims after max 15 sec, right? And at least for what i have tested (fr965 and marq2), I can’t see those exercise numbers etc. clearly without raising the wrist and activating the screen for full brightness.

I have been testing the Race since July and have over 60 exercises recorded. I understand which model you are asking about.

Sorry you mean, you had 42 hours estimate before your activity then ran a 35.5 hour race with no problem? Surely you didn’t still have 42 hours left after the race?

@stromdiddily sorry if that wasn’t clear as I determine battery estimates after an exercise. So, during the 35h and 27 min the battery depletion rate predicts ~42h so I had 6h 30 min of GPS runtime left. Not long enough for the hardest 100 mile races but good for most.

@SuuntoR Sorry, you are correct. It dims, but in my case it’s still easily readible, unless I’m in bright sun (which is rare where I live this time of the year, I didn’t have Amoled in the summer). The Suunto Race AOD is proper AOD.

…and I was also wrong. This “true always on display” seems only to work when it’s dark enough. I hadn’t ran in the day time until today. So it seems to use ambient sensor or something. In the day on workout mode, the display also on SR dims. But I think the numbers are clear also when it dims (where I live also not that sunny anymore) and little wrist turn works quickly. Its been couple of months since I had an amoled Garmin watch, so it was more sunny. But still I would say Garmin watches dim more than SR, or maybe I remember wrong and being too harsh on Garmin about this feature 😅 pictures with SR on full brightness and “dim mode” attached.
