BUG - How can I see the remaining descent if the touchscreen is disabled during an activity?

Hi guys,
I’m sorry for the stupid question, but I can’t figure out how can I see the remaining descent on my Race during an activity. Touchscreen is disabled by default, so I can’t tap the screen to change from ascent to descent, and I cannot find any option to activate it.

@General_Witt I think the only option to touch screen enabled during activity is on maps. Hope they change that in the future .

if it is like SuuntoVertical, you can enable touch in the custom battery mode option of each sports-modes.
There are 3 options : map only/enabled/disabled

@Mff73 The Race doesn’t have a custom battery setting, so this option is missing for seemingly no reason. Does the Vertical still have the option after the new firmware? If so, it’s doubly strange that the Race doesn’t, and really seems like an oversight—I’m really missing the option to toggle between data on the elevation screen.

@Mff73 There is no custom battery mode in the Race. I just hope Suunto is aware that seeing the remaining descent in the graph is as much important as to see the ascent left.

After the new FW, the Race still doesn’t have a custom battery mode so there’s no way to enable the touchscreen during an activity (aside from in the map screen).

That means that it’s currently impossible to see the remaining descent on a route on my very premium outdoor watch, since the metric doesn’t exist as a customizable sports mode field either. One my previous watches, I’ve always assumed that the reason it wasn’t a field in that way was because the feature was baked into the elevation graph, so it seems like Suunto simply forgot this when they decided (for no good reason?) to not give the Race a custom battery mode. It’s such a small thing that could so easily be fixed, and yet it’s such an important feature for anybody doing anything involving elevation that this omission boggles my mind.

@General_Witt For a company that produces a watch called Vertical and has something called Vertical Week, you’d really think they understand that vertical doesn’t just mean ascent.

I don’t know anything about coding, but since the watch clearly tracks the information, it seems like it would be simple to either:

1. Enable the touchscreen automatically when the elevation graph is displayed

2. Port the custom battery mode option from the Vertical, 9PP, etc.

3. As a last resort, add this to the list of customizable sports modes fields

I really like the Race, but this is pretty close to an essential feature for me. Surely writing a bit of code for either of the above is not an arduous task that will either never happen or will have to wait for an update in like a year from now.

Can anyone with any insight confirm that this either works as intended (that is, Suunto has decided that descent doesn’t matter), or that there’s a reason this is missing for now but it will come soon?

@logger @General_Witt This is working as intended. Suunto eliminated the custom sport mode because it did not add any benefit to battery. I will bring this up and see if there will be any solution. I would like this brought back too. This issue was noted by the testers.

@Brad_Olwin Thanks, it’s helpful to know that it’s been noted by the testers, and that it hasn’t just fallen through the cracks. I realize that every new bit of development is prioritized according to various parameters, but fingers crossed this is such a small fix that it can actually get done.
