Just to keep my promise of informing you the Garmin HRM Pro connected flawlessly to the s9b and the HR was spot on. I even had my fitness (vo2) jump 4 units

@bulkan said in Vo2 levels: The Garmin only takes in count the running (not trail running, hiking…) and cycling and ONLY with heart rate strap if I recall well. Running with HR (no belt necessary for what I remember), cycling with a power meter. And they end up in two separate VO2Max values, one for running and one for cycling.

I feel the same. My 9pp ohr readings compared to my H10 are totally wrong. So any data produced from the crazy ohr I get is not reliable. Garbage in, garbage out.

As I am still not able to understand the way S9b works with the laps data in different modes I made a series of tests (trail running) over the same route. Here you have: MODE PERFORMANCE - NAVIGATOR SCREEN OFF § https://www.suunto.com/en-be/move/davidzuelballester/60bb0e0f9859195d40b93320 MODE ENDURANCE - NAVIGATOR SCREEN ON (E-ON) https://www.suunto.com/move/davidzuelballester/60cd9fb2852b3c080621258a MODE ENDURANCE - NAVIGATOR SCREEN OFF (E-OFF) https://www.suunto.com/en-be/move/davidzuelballester/6097121145cefd139a2aaa00 Looking at the maps, neither reading E-ON or E-OFF matches reading P. Whilst E-ON guidance was completely correct, the route recorded is significantly less accurate than reading P. Looking at the total distances: The actual distance is 13.9 kms P recorded distance is 13.87 kms, last split ends at 13.9 Km, so is coherent. E-ON recorded distance is 14.8 kms, last split ends at 13.3 kms (why is that?) E-OFF recorded distance is 14.55 kms, last split ends at 14.4 kms (why is that?) Moreover I don’t get the actual difference between split duration and split min/km. In P these readings are different although though, but in E-ON and E-OFF, these readings are far one to the other.

I come from a Polar S810 before I moved onto the Ambit 2S back in 2014 or so (because there was no way to synchronize this old Polar on a new Windows 8.1 computer… ). The Polar gave you different phases with each a number of repetitions. So when you wanted to program a pyramid interval, you had a lot of sets of one interval each. A hassle to set up, but it was possible. The Ambit series allow you to program it in some sort of code, the latest Suunto models don’t allow this currently it seems. How useful it is? I honestly don’t know. For ramping isometric strength training you work with constant intervals but ramp up the intensity so the fixed intervals of the the latest models are fine. But for running I actually like variable intervals and/or recoveries. When intervals are supposed to be all out, it is just easier to work with intervals decreasing in length (like the second half of the pyramid intervals). I think you’d otherwise end up preserving energy for the last few sets whereas otherwise you will actually always go all out the way you’re supposed to. But maybe the experts will tell me here that this makes zero sense from a training perspective ;). Indeed all training exercises I’ve been given by actual coaches have been with fixed length intervals. Either way, what the Suunto 5 and Suunto 9 seem to have is SuuntoPlus with the “sprint” option. I haven’t tried this yet (have the Suunto 5) but it is supposed to recognize when you perform the interval. So if you have a separate interval timer (like the Gymboss unit, an old Polar watch, or a coach, or a training partner, or landmarks etc) you can just let that/those trigger you to perform the interval and the Suunto watch will register this as such. This function only works for running with GPS or footpod though, so for other sports you might need something else.

@isazi , idk, you tell me Just for some reson people tend to discredit A3P structured intervals for things like “fixed length warmup does not really work for me” or “structured intervals are too strict to be useful (for group training)” and the like. I mean generally, not just in this thread. But those are more like user errors or restrictions set by users themselves, not some shortcomings set by Workout system. Whoever defined how A3P Workouts should behave, came up with some absolutely brilliant ideas. Though locking the builder only into app was not one of those… But the flexibility of this thing is still nothing but awesome

there seems to be an issue when using HR belt in the water. But I’ve only tried once so far. @Piotr-Grygiel if OHR from the watch works for you, I would recommend using it over the more cumbersome HR belt unless there’s a specific reason why you choose to use the belt?

@Frixos-Demetriades I tried it with power, but on flat I had better results with pace to be honest. Power was much lower to go up and down, and sometimes I had a lap (sprint) without wanting it.

@TiagoSPM it’s not always up to companies, but also up to customers. do we really always need the latest stuff? I think there is a demand for having AMOLED and of course some people like to operate their watches by a crown. it’s the companies who develop and offer this kind of equipment to meet market requirements. but in terms of sustainability it’s also up to us to question ourselves: do I need it? it’s not only a companies task to meet sustainability goals, but also customers. not only watches, also phones, cars, bikes, skis and not to forget functional clothing

@nickk well, I cannot decide anything. I only know that the S+ ghost runner will be better in next update, and this issue with the estimate will be fixed.
