I noticed only now after years probably that I don’t get vertical oscillation and ground contact from Stryd. I paired Suunto Vertical with Stryd NextGen as footpod. When I end a workout both metrics in the Stryd app are always 0. I have however the footpath graph and I guess all or most of the other metrics. There is a link saying you need to use the Stryd SuuntoPlus app to “see” more metrics: https://apac.suunto.com/ja-jp/blogs/blog/improve-your-running-technique-with-suunto-and-stryd I thought that was useful to SEE the metric while running, but the recording on the pod would include everything. Plus others in this thread say you get more metrics via food pod pairing. Any hint? I’m puzzled.

@markman8 AFAIK it is not related to gaskets. It’s a software/hardware issue that was well reported in this forum. It has happened to me once (Summer 2024) and the watch was replaced under warranty. There are also some forum members that had multiple failures (and replacements). It was never disclosed what the actual underlying reason was but the failure is known and quite common. Suunto might not willingly acknowledge it but from a moral standpoint they should.

@Philip A €100 watch can display many metrics, but that doesn’t mean the data quality is comparable. More numbers do not necessarily mean better measurement. We don’t know exactly which computational models Suunto uses on the Vertical 1. Sleep and HRV algorithms are strongly tied to the hardware, especially to the OHR sensor and signal quality. The Vertical 2 uses different hardware and a different optical heart rate sensor. It is plausible that any algorithmic evolutions are designed around the newer sensor and are not backward compatible with the Vertical 1. For this reason, realistically, it is difficult to expect major new implementations on the V1. Future developments are more likely to focus on the newer hardware platform. The price of the device is not the decisive factor. The hardware architecture is. EDIT: From the photos, the Suunto Ocean sensor appears to be the same as the one in the Vertical 1, and the Ocean does report deep, REM, and light sleep stages. So, in theory, the Vertical could inherit those features. That said, I may be oversimplifying. Even if the hardware looks similar, firmware architecture, signal processing, and model calibration can differ significantly between devices.

@Egika In addition to my forum post, I contacted Suunto support with the same information. Their response was either to return the watch for assessment or offer a discount on the purchase of a new watch. Since it’s impossible to know the repair cost before analysis, I find the discount offer appealing.

Thanks guys how weird, I haven’t noticed mine doing it in normal mode only when I’m in an activity. I have the latest soft ware. Strange though it’s only started happening in the last week, the last software update was a while back now

@Ecki-D. said in Only 15 Routes to synch to watch?: @Brad_Olwin Should I open another thread, I have asked other 9PP users and it happened to them too. In September I was still able to sync up to 20 routes. 6 of them I had to remove now. Its not a big problem but I first thought, the sync is somehow broken. I can “sync” more than 15 S+ apps as well but the app warns me I am over the limit and the watch especially during exercise is sluggish. Given the 9PP, which is quite old for watches (released in Nov 2022!), has the most recent firmware update adding a lot of features I expect RAM is limited and routes are restricted to 15. I seriously doubt anything is broken but I will ask internally.

@giuliosq the Vertical 2 has a way advanced sensor and might do what you want from it. The first gen Vertical and Race both have sensors that work for some, but most speak badly about them…

@SamuelP @voigas My watch is fine too, but hers isn’t. We trained together and I saw her watch, so it’s not something fake or something

It happened to me as well in September. I think it was caused by water, but they didn’t explain anything to me. I sent it in for service and they replaced it with a brand-new model

You cannot manage Suunto POIs in Routeplanner but you can add user waypoints along your route. You do that by tapping/clicking one of the planning points, the big white dots that are created every time you tap/click the map to create the route. From the popup menu then select ‘Name as waypoint’ and it will be converted into a waypoint visible on your route and during navigation. For the watch data fields yes, all of those are available in Sport mode customization when creating a new sport mode.

Under 2.50.26, I notice that my overnight, off-wrist battery consumption approximately doubles (vs 2.46…) My only change for the new FW was to enable North-up mapping. 2.50… did add the wifi weather updates (which do not work for me … could there be repetitive attempts by the watch to connect to wifi and the App that drain power?)
