@suzzlo maybe it is hr sensor related, like effect of sampling rate. Plus licensing could be expensive.

        Hi all,

Yesterday I saw that Ray was presenting “an improved sleep algorithm” for Garmin devices and also, he is mentioning in the video that some time ago (1 year?), they have deliver a new Body Battery algorithm.

My question is? does someone know if this changes are from FirstBeat algos, and if they are going to be also included in Suuntos releases?

        I’m just curious

I’ve been comparing Garmin and Suunto on these. For me, the sleep is as good or better on Suunto. The Garmin does not always agree with how I feel. I am not sure the sleep as all that helpful on Garmin. Too much information for me.
The Body Battery seems to work better for me than Resources as the latter seems to have a slower recovery. However, they are typically in reasonable agreement.

@brad_olwin agree on sleep! For me Garmin’s sleep tracking does not work well and pretty much contradicts its own body battery readings (e.g. I can have 99 or 100 % Body battery on wake-up and feel I had a good night s sleep and Garmin gives me a 58 Sleep score). For me that’s mostly because Garmin misses my deep sleep. But as I have realised here through you and others is, that I rely more on how I feel (both sleeping/relaxing and working out) and only second in what any sportswatch tells me 😀

@brad_olwin I see also Resources quite slow compared to Garmin…but which is right? No idea

I’m curious to know if the Suunto updates include also first beat updates (like they are doing with Sony GPS)

@suzzlo I do not know how the Firstbeat works with updates. Garmin has updated theirs with Stamina, which has not worked well for me. In the races I have done so far I can go several hours with 0% stamina.
For me Recovery Time is worse than Resources, I feel Resources are not that far off and if I switch between Suunto and Garmin as I said they are not that far off.
Probably depends on how the license is provided.

with all this discussion and interest in Vo2 max, now might be a time to try it.

                I did… 37.66 on the track… the watch shows 41.9

@freeheeler the watch shows cumulative value, doesn’t it? Could be that you were just tired etc.

I’ve posted this in a separate post, but it disapeard somehow. Either way; my S9P automatically starts and stop laps/intervals when swimming in a pool. I really like this feature. When swimming longer intervals (>200m) it’s easy to loose track about how many meters I’ve swum (# of 25’s).
The watch’s high frequency beep is easily to hear under water. So it would be a good idea to let the watch beep at each completed 100m. That means, 1 short beep @ 100m, 2 short beeps @ 200m, etc.
That way one would receive a short reminder of the completed distance in an interval.

Previously used: Cyclosport HAC4, Polar S710, Ambit 2S, Ambit 3S, SSU, S5P, S9P Ti. Currently using: Race Ti.

Not sure where else to post it. Went for another hike yesterday, comparing S9, S9B and Fenix 5 vs values from Komoot map. The order is as follows: distance in km, highest point in m, total ascend in m, total descend in m.
                        S9: 16.58, 1809, 1306, 1159
                        S9B: 16.89, 1809, 1249, 1125
                        Fenix: ~ 19, 1573, 1088, 1068
                        Komoot: ~ 15.5, 1808, 1090, 960

So, it would seem that the Fenix overshoots the distance by a large margin (however maybe it just calculates 3D and not 2D distance or whatever), somehow really drops the ball for the highest point, yet shows the closest elevation gain as to that predicted by the map (while I have to wonder if it’s just a coincidence considering the highest point measured). On the other hand suunto is at least somewhat consistent between the watches and it could very well be that the algo is yet again different, picking up smaller elevation differences.

Today I ran without HR belt, because I forgot it. Wrist HR is turned off in Running, so there was no HR measurement.

However, my watch (Suunto 5) happily gave me a VO2max estimate. I wonder how it was calculated without any HR info…

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos Ok, thanks! I remember that with previous SW I had sometimes runs that did not give me VO2max, if there was a problem with HR belt. But displaying the previous value is ok (I checked that it was the previous value 🙂 )

any chances that we see a fix on the battery depleting when the watch is not worn because it seems that the HR sensor gets into a infinite loop ?

@isazi what do you mean? is it something coming down with the next release or it is fixed in the current version ?

because yesterday I left the watch in my bag and lost 28% in a single day

@thanasis for many users it got solved already, for others (probably you are in this group) should be fixed with next firmware.
