@Pavlas I doubt it will come. I do not think it is a hardware issue, but may require rewriting part of the old interface if that one wasn’t built to be configurable like the new one, and that is a cost.

a cost that would significantly benefit the user base… so maybe a profitable decision, long term.

We already had the same discussion at the Spartan / S9 transition and unfortunately the story was not in the direction of the owners of spartan … it seems to be repeated S9 § / S9PP. These are business model choices, Suunto does not have the customer base of a Garmin

            Race
            S9P with a firmware too
            SSSWHR with a firmware inside

@thanasis from customer point of view for me this brings no real benefits. S9 and peak got so many features and accuracy updates over the years which are really useful. F6 did not get so much love in details as S9 imo. But efforts for only new graphics I would say not so necessary. But of course should a new watch with new processor get new UI with graphics… that’s whats happening.

I think It is a trivial feature in terms of implementation with significant benefits (the enablement/disablement of screens) and something that was there from ambit times as well. I don’t think it so big but the mentality of “we don’t invest in that because it involves costs etc” even though it is something that should (or was expected) to have been there in the first place . anyway, they can do anything they want … I am just sharing my view

@thanasis tbh I find arguing on this pointless for two reasons:
We haven’t seen the code suunto uses for the old UI (which is at least 6yo btw) -> how can we judge if something is easy to implement
We aren’t market analytics having access to suunto sales/customer data -> how can we judge if implementing this or that is going to have a noticeable impact.

Not to say I think you or anyone else is not allowed to share their opinion of course:)
For me personally it’s all the same if my S9 gets edit function or not, I only use two screens anyways: watchface and exercise.

@seanvk Thanks for sharing this article, this watch looks promising. I do hope Suunto throw a massive surprise to people with older watches and bring some news features out. I know probably wishful thinking 🤔

Everything sounds very promising and the fact that Suunto produces in Finland attracts me very much. I just have to think about whether I like a small watch or whether I’d rather wait for a larger one 😁

Suunto watches have never been available in different sizes, unlike phones or eg garmin where you had the choice with some compromises…
I support bigger watches entirely and always mention this at the end of surveys ✊ but it seems that the majority prefers smaller watches.

S9P/P are beautiful watches, why not scaling them, be proud and show off a bit 😍

@freeheeler think Suunto knew exactly what they did with peak. Maybe top wish before was to make a smaller watch. From athletic point of view, size is perfect. But of course are there some left who want a bigger watch for mountaineering or just for style. Would be very interesting how sales figures are over the years and between S9 and S9P. We will never know… but the smaller the group for bigger watch, the later it will be there or never… nobody knows… also 1.3 inch in peak future could be a possible way.

@freeheeler This topic is important also for me. I am a little bit toward big watches but… my first big watch was A3. At firsts, wearing it was awkward. My eyes were not used to such a big watch (I was coming from POLAR RCX5) .
Over the years I have also had other watches ,smaller than A3 like S5 (4 mm smaller) and POLAR GRIT X (3mm smaller).
I have to say that in the end my eyes got used to both of them so much that when I was back with S9B, it looked awkward at first. Same goeas for the band (24mm vs 22mm)
That’s why I am genuinely considering to buy the S9PP. I know I will get used to its size and I will not have the asshole of the big watch moving around and pushing into my wrist when doing crossfit-weight lifting and so on.
Because I am getting old and my eyes do not work any more I care a lot about contrast and size of the screen.
S9PP promises better contrast and notably the screen is 0.3mm bigger than S5 and 0.3 smaller than S9/B.
and same size of Polar Grit X 1.2".
All in all I think is a matter of time, but I will give S9PP a try.

I also expect that Suunto did a great job on readability and contrast of the screen.
The benefit of a smaller watch is less annoyance of it during the workout and I am also aware that bigger watches are disturbing e.g. during push ups.
I am absolutely not against the size of S9PP and might give it a try, too.
But I would appreciate to at least have a choice… 🙂 coming from Suunto Core to garmin F3, A3PS and now S9B

@freeheeler I prefer s9pp size but would have liked a bigger screen. Maybe this can be achieved in the next gen by shrinking bezels a little bit?
