@frederikbk I have the same feeling, a Vertical smal would be great.

        @frederikbk Isn’t that basically a 9PP once it gets a firmware update?

No, the Vertical is dual band GNSS, has 32GB of memory and on board maps. HR and HRV are sampled more often with the Vertical than the 9PP. They are quite different.

I get the sense that the 9P/9PP were pretty successful for Suunto, and since they were essentially their flagship models for two years, it seems they understand that there’s a segment out there who is looking for a smaller watch. The Vertical is just too large and clunky for me, and while it might work ok on a backcountry hike, it’s not really a feasible size for me for my daily life and commutes. But if they put the Vertical in a 9PP-sized watch, I will buy that on release.

@frederikbk I’m afraid the size is kind of the issue. If the same electronics of the 49mm SV case needs to go into a 43 small-SV, there is way less room for batteries.

Besides the diameter the height needs to be smaller too, so even less space for the battery.

Smaller diameter also means less benefit of solar, because of the reduced surface area.

              But I prefer 43mm too…

I can afford something in between. I will really love a 1.4’ display, in a smaller form factor. Also we have read that the space for the antenna was not enough in S9PP (this was the key factor for not having a dual band watch, if I’m not wrong). I’m not outdoor hardcore user, so battery/solar are not a big issue for me… charging every 2 or 2.5 weeks will not make any difference.

Keeping (or upgrading) design, processor, memory will make me a really happy new owner 🙂

I’m really liking this thread as I am a big fan of the S9PP because of its design and form factor. I think given its battery life and accuracy was pretty amazing. 😊

Funny though, when the 9 Peak was launched, and the Peak Pro after, everyone was posting ‘screen too small/device to small for my wrist’ 😅

I think Suunto is doing well with options and hopefully keeps innovating.

Make sure you see it and try it on in person before you make a decision, to me it feels quite a bit smaller on my wrist than my S9B even though you’re only looking at a millimetre or two

FWIW I have small/skinny wrists, it definitely doesn’t look massive on me and it feels far from clunky. I actually have watches that are smaller than the SV but they wear and feel larger, possibly due to the design, lugs etc

@MiniForklift I agree. I owned a S9B in the past and thought 2mm wouldn’t make much of a difference but the SV looks smaller on the wrist than it actually is.

Funny…when Suunto created the S9P everyone voted for bigger watches. Now Suunto creates the SV and a threat is opened for smaller watches 🤣

This shows again that taste is personal and there will never be an ultimate, one-size-fits-all watch.

                        S9P: give me a bigger S9P
SV: give me a smaller SV 😁

Or just give us two sizes of each model? Since a large part of Suunto’s appeal for me is the look, design, and build quality of the watches—and I suspect Suunto knows that this is one of the few key areas where they can compete with Garmin—it would make sense if they produced a few sizes/varieties of each watch, since “style” is such an important USP for them.
