@altcmd I don’t understand how in 2023 alerts during workouts are not the most basic thing of watches. Every other major sport company has native alerts…

@stromdiddily I have raised this a few months ago here: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/9342/out-of-zone-vibration?_=1698948347504

I do not believe out of zone notification/vibration is implemented on any structured workout or Guide implementation.

Thanks for chiming in! I never create in SA directly so wasn’t sure on it

@stromdiddily I just tried it out 🙂 There are no zone alarms for structured workouts created via Suunto app.

By the way, another little bug: Wrong language in the guide screen. My watch is set to English, but the guide screen is German. Probably because my phone is set to German. That’s the same as with the turn by turn notifications. Those notifications are always in the phone’s language.

I just had my first structured workout, and the fact that there are no out of zone alerts is a deal breaker for me. I’m gonna be refunding my Race.

@FoleyRose Are you referring to audible alerts or vibrations?I believe the only options are to add heart rate or pace alerts with the color coded tachometer. I believe that is how garmin does it as well. I do believe i recall there are audible alerts if you pair headphones…i cannot swear to this

@craigeggleton changing colour in the tachometer is not an alert in the same way changing pace and watch confirming the changed pace is not an alert. We are talking about an audible or vibration alert which Garmin, Polar, Coros and Wahoo have but guess who does not….

Noticed that Suunto does not have a stride length field for running… thought this is one of the most basic running field which should be included. Will it ever be included ?

@altcmd I don’t understand at all the choices that Suunto makes. They probably have the best and most accessible app but they lack some really basic things like alerts, though they include a structured workout section on the app. And even if it is better than nothing, most of the things that are Suunto apps should be native to the watch like NGP or the threshold tests or stride length, slope, drinking and eating alerts, HR zones duration, the safe app etc.
It looks like a really good watch with really poor functions. I also think if it is not resolved soon via a firmware update that I will have to go to Polar as alerts are really important to me (and for most of us I guess) and especially Stryd native alerts…
I really think Suunto is shooting himself in the foot not making these features native to the watch… And it’s a shame because the watch is really beautiful, as is the app, and it really has a lot of potential, but I don’t want to wait another 2+ years to have those basic things on the watch

                        No specific dates.
The last fw update for the SV was end of June.

@zhang965 Yeah! That’s pretty much how Suunto operates - soon. Everything is soon. New features are now prioritised and when you have them, they are poorly implemented to be useless. Maps, structured workouts…half baked.

@geolerigolo there are usually 2-3 firmware updates per year. Mainly both in spring and in fall.
you can see this easily when checking the updates on existing watches:

                              Some bigger, some smaller.

@craigeggleton I’m referring to vibrations. I can’t keep looking at my watch, especially during an interval. It’s a fundamental functionality for any training watch.
I was willing to accept a lot of negatives for the beautiful screen, but that one is just unforgivable.
Also, my good impressions of the OHR sensor are gone, the readings got really bad as soon as the temperature dropped. I live in Montreal and I plan to train outside all through winter so this is not a good start.

@FoleyRose yeah, if sound and vibration for structured intervals is a must, then maybe Suunto Race is not for you.

Regarding OHR in cooler teperatures: My results went worse in fall (as to be expected) as well. I now have successfully proved a solution for me when running:
Wrap a buff around the watch and the wrist. You can still see and operate the watch, but it is shaking less and wrist is kept warmer.
Also I found that a tight strap that works well for OHR in summer, restricts blood flow even more when it gets colder. So I put my strap a notch less tight. Together with the buff I get exactly the same results as with chest strap connected to Vertical.

True that! As already highlighted, all competitors have it but if Suunto does not want to hear, it can stay adamant about what it thinks its users need - just how it was adamant for a decade that its users do not need structure workouts. Makes you wonder why Suunto looses EUR 40m on EUR 50m sales. Love it - let’s keep this up and maybe another Chinese owner is already lining up at an ever deflating enterprise value.
