@VaineRT daily activity tracking is not what this is about. The crashes happen during session recording.

I am using the Race 24/7 with a total of around 10-20 hours of sports sessions per week. During those recordings of sessions I already encountered 2 crashes with a restart of the Race. The recording is luckily not totally lost, but nevertheless this must never happen at all.
Nobody wants to run a marathon and realize while running that the Race is not recording anymore. This is a total failure of the whole purpose of sports watches.

@Olaf-Gottschalk Perhaps people are downvoting your post because it’s pretty pointless and just an excuse to vent? You experienced a crash and reported the bug, and then what? Everybody else needs to hear about it, with your usual negative tone?

Thanks for reporting the bug; that is a useful service to the community. But venting about it here just takes up space and spreads negativity for no reason.

@logger I don’t think venting is such a bad idea. More posts about crashes and maybe suunto will assign more sources to solve this. Although I unfortunately don’t put high hopes on this. As @zhang965 said it is suunto’s cancer, this happened before race already 😞

@logger this is not venting. Suunto wants this forum for feedback of users and honestly I cannot understand anybody here who is happy with mid activity crashes.

This is pretty much the ONLY thing a sports watch must never do. I lose faith in the device immediately, so Suunto should be reacting ASAP and with ALL available dev power to find the cause and fix it.

There is a great chance companies DIE from bad software.

My “negative” tone you point out comes directly from me being a software dev who takes great pride in the well executed craftsmanship of coding, including tests and a massive amount of care towards not allowing failures. If management of companies like Suunto do not understand what they sell, they will be doomed - and I do not want this.

I dislike the attitude “well, it just happens” a lot. 10 years ago with embedded devices being sold that were not able to receive any firmware updates (bug fixes), those companies had no other way than producing quality products.
This is a disease right now…

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos the trouble went on today. 😞

I went for another indoor ride, started Zwift and wanted to also start the Race…

But today: my sensors could not be found at all! While already in the Zwift race, I tried everything: waiting. Switching off connectivity and re-enabling it. The removing the pairing - only to find out the Race could not even pair my sensors again.

Then I manually powered off the Race and restarted it.

After this procedure, I was able to again pair the sensors.

My logs are again sent out to Suunto…

              This is all devastating again.

@Olaf-Gottschalk I agree with you 100%, the watches should never crash during an activity, it is simply unacceptable. That was one reason why I purchased my first Ambit and continued with other Suunto watches. I agree with your initial post, it should never happen. You do have folks at Suunto helping you with this, I hope they solve it soon.

Fully agree!! and that is a major issue when you use the watch for trail running in unkown areas…

@Olaf-Gottschalk did you pair the belt with zwift? if yes that is the issue at least from what I see in the logs. The belt was paired with another device?

                          @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos yes. Why?
This H10 has two channels which are independent. Always works like this and didn’t give any problems prior and after.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos In every setup I run the specific H10 HR belt is used with its 2 BT channels.

                            Outdoors: Wahoo & Race
                            Indoors: PC & Race

Same as with the power meters.

And… If that can cause crashes… That would be absolutely unacceptable.

FWIW, I use the exact same setup indoors and outdoors as you, i.e.,

                                1. H10 + power meter pedals connected to both Race and Wahoo Roam (outdoors)
                                2. H10 + power meter pedals connected to both Race and Zwift (indoor)

So far I have done 69 activities (mostly indoor) since getting the Race and have not experienced any reboots or problems during activities. The rides are usually between 1 to 3 hours.

This doesn’t really help you but I just wanted to share my (positive) experience with the same setup.

@Mads-Hintz-Madsen I was wondering if at this point all the problems are due to a defective unit–and he never wanted to send it in for service. gosh.

@Mads-Hintz-Madsen it helps a lot, Mads!

Because that’s exactly what I did since November - and I cannot understand what this should have to do with a crash according to the logs.
The H10 does not really care what’s connected to its 2 channels and the Race does not even know anything about a second channel…

If like @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos says this would be the reason for a crash… Would be horrifying.

Robis. I am developing software. Believe me, I do know what software issues are.
I’ve been bugged around by other companies with sending in perfectly fine units only to suffer A LOT by having to organize replacement watches for weeks ONLY to get back the same or a different unit and waiting for the next crash to happen weeks later.

                                      This is pure software.

If Suunto really strongly believes in the possibility that such things are hardware related, they should immediately send out a replacement upfront to minimize the impact to end users to almost no suffering.

But as I said: no crash is the only acceptable crash count… 🤣

@Olaf-Gottschalk BTW, are you using any Suunto+ apps?

These apps are adding additional real-time signal processing so I’m wondering if there is some risk that the CPU cannot keep up with certain computational heavy Suunto+ apps in addition to dealing with both external heart rate and power meter sensor. Just pure speculation as I have no idea if computational overload is even close to being an issue.

I’m personally using the Fat Burner and Training Peaks Ride apps with every activity.
