Slow (very slow) GPS response on new acitivty
-
Since the latest firmware update my 9PP is very, very (minutes and minutes) slow at picking up GPS when I start a new activity. I have done all the things like syncing with the app, making sure I am in clear view of the skies etc. Every activity in the last couple weeks has taken a very long time to connect and sometimes even when it does, it will create an odd track, probably where the GPS is dropping out. The result is an odd spike where it adds distance, but also being in winter in the UK it means standing in the cold waiting for minutes for GPS.
It was always slow in comparison to the Suunto Vertical I have, even before the latest firmware, but not in the minutes category!
I’ve raised a ticket with support to get the official view but I wondered if others are seeing similar?

This may have been answered in other subjects / posts but a quick scan didn’t bring anything up.

@matthinsh not a generic issue AFAIK… works fine/fast for me
-
@matthinsh Make sure under Settings/About on the watch you have a current AGPS file. It sounds as if the AGPS is not there or is old.
-
@Brad_Olwin yeah I do that, all up to date. I think it’s a HW problem, all good thanks

I have a similar issue. Updates on the Assisted GPS, but any time I am within the vicinity of a building, or not completely outdoors, I am lucky if I manage to get GPS acquisition at all. Is this a known issue? I only received the watch in December 2023, but at present, my 5 year old Garmin Forerunner 235 is more effective in gaining a GPS lock. It is extremely frustrating.

When you connect to the gps, are you moving? I can get the gps quickly when I stop moving.

@bumberclart
Maybe a fix is coming that may help (as far as I understand this https://forum.suunto.com/post/139702) -

Me too this week, been awful, takes minutes.

@Mff73 so the new software update did not improve the gps issue on my s9pp
-
@mikel
If everything is checked on software side, then it could be hardware, and then, only suunto support could help.
GPS is also hardware linked. -
@Mff73 I hope not. Is my 4th 9 peak pro. Every Watch was broken after short time with different failures
