Please, new race s / Suunto user. Coming from Coros pace 3.
      I got brightness question.
So one of reasons to switch to this watch is because im 46 and got elderly long vision, I need glasses for close reading. That is not problem in daylight, but during night when you mix MIP screen and “so so” lighting + and my vision its like -> not good. I see lot of people scared of too much light during night from AMOLED, but in my case that helps me see better during night activities. And I noticed this watch has brightness sensor and is dimming screen in low light. And there are 3 brightness levels. So my question is because its hard to see difference, I need info what should be on the paper / how the watch is designed:
When Im in dark, is there any difference mid vs high brightness?
Is this “mid” / “high” the maximum potential of watch brightness (during daylight) or it also shifts “minimal” value, so in pure dark “high” is somewhat brighter than “mid”?

      many thanks

I am a lot older than you are! I need glasses for reading as well and have no problems seeing the Race S at medium or low brightness while running at night. In fact, the high is to bright and I do not use it.

Is it still so that EU and US orders are made in Finland and the rest in China? I am based in Finland and the one I received is made in China. Frankly, a bit disappointed.

@altcmd Same for my Race S (Austria) - also made in China. They changed the description on the website a few days ago, I made a separate thread for it

It seems the whole production is in China from now on. For you in Finland this must be even harder, but also as an European I feel very disappointed

Well, I might differ from quite a few but despite the lovely form factor and size, Race S just wasn’t for me. I think that the transition from MiP to Amoled isn’t something I am able to bridge at all. In all honesty, I find the use to Amoled tech on endurance and sports watches to be pointless, even though that’s what every manufacturer is doing.

Sorry Race S - maybe I will wait for the Vertical S, if it were ever to be 😉

@altcmd You are right. Too bad the Vertical S doesn’t exist and the 9PP has no maps. So I think in the moment Race S still the best choice.

@isazi What i do not understand is, why the crown ist not utilized during sport modes to flip pages, further and also backwards. I mean there is a new UI element, which is completely dead during sports. I think Coros uses it this way and I would like it, because having a lot of data pages and maps and Suunto plus, dailing backwards could easily access maps or last pages, which makes much sense. Why is the crown not used in sports and will it come?

that is a good point, it would be useful for sure, maybe the drawback is that it is relatively easy to accidentally rotare the crown during an activity, while is way more difficult to push it …

I think noone here will be able to explain the reasoning behind certain design descisions.
This is a user forum, no “ask Suunto directly”…

But I could think of more uses for the dial as well, like adjusting the volume when within the media controls etc.

@Egika but we know that there are suunto testers on the forum who can pass on ideas here with better results than contacting Suunto support directly 😉

that would be just great! 👏

@Patrick-Rx I ordered it just a few days ago, on the 9th of september. I think this was also the day they changed the description on the website, but I didn’t notice it before ordering

@altcmd Same issue here. I Received my Race S 🇨🇦 yesterday, flipped over the back of the watch, “Made in China” 🇨🇳 oh I was surprised. All my Suunto’s that I own, ALL are made in Finland 🇫🇮 …all except this one…

Can it be that TSS is calculated directly after the run in watch preliminary and is corrected when syncing? I get before syncing different values than after syncing?

I just double checked and I think Suunto needs to really correct this. Look closely and the watch on Suunto’s Race S page (specifically the gif and image 3 if you look at the default Black variant from a computer) still says Made in Finland. But the description which was recently updated now says CN.

@altcmd this is an interesting point, making a top watch, with a MIP screen and big enough to have a big battery, is a sensible choice for that segment of ‘enthusiasts’ and sportsmen from very long and multi-day activities. But what I don´t understand, is why they don´t at least make a version of a small watch with a MIP screen, small watches have small batteries and here the MIP would also make a lot of sense. Perhaps MIP screens are difficult to make and assemble for watches with small dials?

@Roberto_m The 9 Peak Pro exists, so its possible. With the new lower price its also a very attractive option if you don’t need maps

without maps I would not need a watch.

Seems as though right after I put the message about the photos and gif showing Made in Finland, all traces of the said images have now disappeared from the website. Albeit the retailers still have the original, they would most likely be selling a Made in China watch but promoting it as Made in Finland.
