      @thanasis said in Battery drain:

I think I identified a new pattern for the battery drain without actually starting the exercise

Navigate to quick start menu of a exercise (eg running)
      Configure setting
      Abort (go back)
Did it twice after I had resettled the watch from an exercise and I got like 1% drain per hour on idle

@isazi Do you know if this one is also confirmed by Suunto (and not fixed yet)? I think I ran into the same issue last week.
During an evening run, I enalbed the backlight of the watch during the activity. Afterwards, I went into the options of my running profile to check if it was a one time setting or that the backlight was enabled now for every future running activity. It was off, so I exited the config menu.

After that, I noticed a huge battery drain of around 10% per day where 1-2% per day is my baseline.

I charged my suunto vertical solar to 100% on 20.10.
I do only weight exercises twice a week and have 24/7 hr and sleep tracking on. Battery is 20% at the time od writing this post. Maybe best solution would be to sell the watch and go back to garmin…

Roughly 2 hrs activity with map and navigation, HRV with watch … end of the day, battery consumption was 9% … not really convincing 😕

@colakovitz Suunto Vertical (no Solar) charged to 100% on october 22th.
After 13h of activities (11h outdoors with GPS) battery is now at 34% (13 days). With these numbers I think I’ll recharge on thursday with battery around 20%. This is 15-16 days from full recharge. Before the summer upgrade I recharged watch every 18-20 days (4-4,5% battery cosumption every day), now I recharge every 15-16 days (around 5% battery consumption per day) so battery consumption is higher than before.

@colakovitz You will not find official answers from the manufacturer on this forum. This is where users try to help other users. Maybe someone would buy your watch, because most of them are satisfied with the watch.😜

All right, for me, the update solved the problem of excessive battery draining when the watch is in standby mode (without active workouts).

                          Context:

                          • I upgraded to version 2.37.48 directly from version 2.35.34, which caused the battery draining problem discussed here. Since version 2.37.34 did not bring any solutions to this issue, I completely ignored it and did not update to this version.
                          • It is also important to note that prior to the update, my temporary solution was to restart the watch after any activity, especially (as advised here often) one that used navigation (hiking, walking, trail running, cycling, etc.).

                          Update:

                          • done within the app on the phone
                          • I did not restart the watch after the update
                          • I usually do not charge the battery more than 80% to 90% of its total capacity according to the maintenance guidelines for all lithium-ion batteries, unless I download offline maps, in which case the watch charges to 100%

                          Conclusions:

                          • standby battery consumption has returned to the original version according to me, here I am very satisfied. The watch can stay in standby and discharge for at least 6-8 weeks (if charged to 100%).
                          • Whereas my first negative impressions about battery drain during workouts somewhat have been confirmed. I don’t know how much of this is due to the new features, such as the distance countdown when navigating, or the altitude indication (if running), but I have the impression that the battery is draining faster than before. It’s not a huge consumption, but for example, in the running intervals I did before during less than an hour, the consumption increased about 1-2%, from 3 to 4-5% respectively. The same for swimming and mountain hiking. My impression is that the consumption while the watch is involved in workouts has increased by about 10%, sometimes 15%.

I am sorry to read that others still have this problem. I wish them that the solution will be found quickly, and I hope Suunto will take this lesson to heart and next time will test the equipment in such a way that it does not mess up or deprive them of the most important, flagship features it so proudly advertises.
Anyway, according to mine and others’ experience with the battery drain problem, there is still some work to be done.

@sebchastang Unfortunately, after several hikes, I still observe battery drain issue sometimes in time mode after activities.
During activity, battery consumption seems as expected, but sometimes after activity battery lose around 6% per day.
It is not as much as before latest update where battery used to lose around 10% (and even more), but it is still annoying.
As usual, battery drain goes back to normal after watch reboot. (1-2% a day in time mode according to my usage).
I understand it is not easy to investigate but I still hope dev team will find the root cause and release a fix soon 🤞

@sebchastangUn : My Vertical also experience a ~7-8% drain per day. It is less than before last firmware update…but still too important to reach 30 days autonomy. And I switched off smartphone notifications, SpO2 monitoring during sleep time, most of the widgets, etc…

@Nicolas-Marseille I have the impression that the drain is still connected to the usexif a map. When you used the battery drains faster for me, but a soft reset after the use helps to stop the drain and returns it to much lower battery usage … just my impression

Same here. Tried resetting etc but I’m loosing 4%5% a day. 24/7 hR but lowest brightness setting. 8h exercise a week. Battery drain seems normal during exercise but during normal wear just unacceptable drain. It’s the whole point I got this watch. The battery … quite frustrating

@BastMaSVSRS9PP I would agree - I use less battery in exercise than the watch “resting”. I have started restarting the watch after every use but it seems to only help a little. Definitely not the duration I had when it was new.

There is definitely something with the new activity settings menu. Whether I start an activity or not.

Last weekend I had a race and I used the exact same running profile as always. This time however, I went into the settings to change the battery mode. After the race, I noticed an increase in battery drain while in watch mode. A reboot solved it.

I have observed that same behavior. If I use my Vertical usually: 24h, training, etc, battery consumption is “normal” (around 5% by day) but from weekend I have left Vertical in the table (I’m wearing Race S this week), the only thing i do with it is sync to App in the morning and yesterday I changed one custom sport setting and the watchface. This morning battery has dropped 10% in the night, been in the table.

Quite frankly , this battery drain issue really undermines my trust in the watch. I’m hesitant to take it on any multi day trips or full day activities because how can I trust that the battery won’t die. It’s the whole point of this pretty expensive watch. Suunto needs to fix this. They just started earning customer trust back and headed in the right direction but this is very frustrating for anyone who relies on the watch when out and about in rough terrain be it backcountry skiing, mountaineering , long distance running etc.
