      Hello

I’m trying to put maps on my new Suunto Race.
But most of the maps fail during download (not all).
My watch is fine on wifi, and on the power dock.
For example, the FRANCE/Rhone-Alpes map systematically fails at the same progress level, and restarting the download doesn’t change anything.

I’ve reset my watch but that doesn’t change anything.

I have the firmware (very recent, 2 days ago) 2.39.44

My watch is unusable for me without the maps.

      Thanks

@Laurent-Matheis Check if the charger is not connecting-disconnecting mid download. I mean, if you are able to download some maps, you should be able to download all the others.

I had some problems, in the SV, if I try to download too many maps at the same time. for me it works to do it one by one. And make sure that the watch it is well connected and stable during all the download.

I downloaded this exact map area this summer, but obviously it was another firmware version.

@cosme-costa I download one at same time.
for this map (Rhone-Alpes) it fail always at same progression (tested many times), and yes i’m sure to have wifi and alimaentation stable (test on different bloc alim, different wifi).
i think the last firmware have bug 😞

@Laurent-Matheis I downloaded Rhone-Alpes today on two different watches, so it is not that map in particular having problems

I sent the logs just after a failure of the FRANCE/Rhone-Alpes map, which fails every time.

I’ve modified my network to have a fixed MAC address and deactivated ECO mode, but it doesn’t change anything.
It looks like the watch is losing the wifi connection while the phone (which generates the connection) is right next to it.

I’ve obviously tried restarting the watch, resetting it, re-pairing it, restarting the phone …

Thank you for looking in the logs.

I don’t understand why we can’t download all map directly on the phone, and then send it on the watch … This system make me crazy, since I have reset the watch I can"t connect it to the wifi I always used before …

Sending a map file via Bluetooth will take forever.

@Dan-Cantir I’m not so sure. My Wahoo and previous Garmin devices did/do download maps much faster than the Suunto Vertical. Wahoo only communication is BT.

I much prefer the Suunto map implementation when on the watch but the download takes for ever and trying to select the correct title is an art in itself.

I am assuming by “devices” you mean bike computers? They have different hardware, probably more powerful, so I am not sure it’s fair to compare them with a watch.

I doubt it uses Bluetooth for map downloads, I might be wrong. Checked their docs and for all bike computers they say a WiFI connection is needed.

I agree downloading maps is too slow on the Vertical, but they introduced it a year ago I guess? Probably it is slow because of some hardware limitation on the watch.

well, you said “download all map directly on the phone, and then send it on the watch”. Since the phone - watch communication is done via Bluetooth, I see no other option?

Yes, currently the watch is connecting to the Wifi network directly. Not sure why download is slow, maybe slow processor, maybe the write speed on the watch memory is low😕

I‘m not sure for 100% but I think that in further discussions about this, they talked about a processing of the data in the watch while downloading… and this might be the reason for the long time needed. By the way… I have a really slow internet connection and wifi at home, and a fast one at work… but downloading maps on the watch is really slow at both places!

@SuperFlo75 The data is likely downloaded in a compressed format and is then decompressed on the watch.

I sent my watch back to Amazon to get a new one and I had exactly the same problem!
And just in case, I haven’t updated the firmware.
                                        So the problem isn’t hardware.

On the other hand, I tried using my company’s wifi network (fibre optic) and it worked !!!
But at home it doesn’t work with any of my 2 separate wifi networks!

I think there’s a problem in the watch on the software side to manage long downloads on certain wifi networks, something that makes the watch think that the network is no longer available even though it’s functional.

That’s it for me, I’ll be loading my cards at the office…
