I´m looking for a golf-app for my suunto race, which shows the distance to the next green. Any ideas?

      Thx!

So, not going to create a new topic and this one seems quite appropriate.

I bought Race, yay. These are my first thoughts, more to come.

        Backround:
I wanted a new sport watch. I had Garmin Forerunner 55. I am a cyclist in a first place, but I am doing also hiking, weight training. I was leaning to Garmin, because I have Edge bike computer, so integration into one platform is nice.
But, here is the thing: Garmin has just too many models in their lineup. Just the shear amount is crazy. And, to be honest, I think it is bit overpriced. Not Polar crazy overpriced, but just a bit.
Part of that (IMO) is the amount of features Garmin has. But, again, my opinion, some of them are just…well bit gimmicky? Things like Hill score, Endurance score, Body battery, Training readiness… Do not get me wrong, people at Garmin had to work hard for those metrics, but to me, they are completely meaningless.
I know my own body battery, I live with my body for 30 years. I do not need training readiness, I know if I can handle threshold training or if it better to go light and easy. Sometimes I have a feeling that those metrics exist, just to compare yourself to some random person on Reddit…

So, I wanted core features, good GPS, altimeter, onboard maps, good battery, HRV tracking is nice.
Heart rate accuracy is not critical, I always wear a strap.
And, I had a budget. Combine all these things, it ruled out most of Garmin watches. The only one that has some potential was Instinct 2x …but, again, no maps, and I think, that the display could be much larger on that watch.

        So, I went with Suunto.
Vertical was out of budget, and I was choosing between Race and Race S. Race S has newer HR sensor, but smaller battery ultimately decided, that I went with Race.

        FIRST FEW DAYS
It was not smooth. First day, the watch did not want to update. Several soft resets, paring/unpairing, I even uninstall app in phone…
Ultimately, I went to sleep, and next morning after pairing, there was a update waiting in app. Cool.
Watch itself is really nicely made. Buttons are solid, and digital crown is easy to use. I was sceptical at first (coming from Garmin, those are all buttons), but the crown really acts like 3 buttons in one (up, down, select).
Even tho the watch is quite large (before I had FR 55, small tiny 43 mm watch) it sits on wrist nicely.
I only did one walk so far, but GPS accuracy seems to be very good. Not going to comment on HR accuracy, but it seems to be around right (if you train long enough, you know ± your heart rate just be feeling).

Overall, I am happy with my purchase.
I want to do more hiking in autumn, so you can expect more post as times go.

@StefanPancake Welcome to the Suunto family and enjoy your Race. It’s a very very nice watch and the best value for money.

Suunto watches: Ocean (Sand), Race (Titanium Charcoal), Vertical (Titanium Solar Sand), 9 Baro (Ambassador Edition), Spartan Ultra (Copper Edition), Ambit 2, S6

so it’s been almost a year since I got the watch and today it came back after a service, complete module replacement. I don’t know what that means exactly, but hopefully the problems with HR etc will be gone and we can move on 😄

I am following up on my review here and after more than a year I decided to switch to Vertical. MIP is just MIP and it fits me better, as well as the buttons versus the crown. Winter has started and I’m already having trouble operating the watch with gloves as I did last winter. The Race is a great watch, but the Vertical is better set up for my needs.

PS: I was lucky enough to buy almost new, second hand, titanium solar and made in Finland. So I don’t feel so bad about having another watch after a year 😄

                  Former 9PP user.
The design of the package is really beautiful.
First feelings are great, I have the steel version and a very thin wrist, but everything is fine and the watch is great to hold, the weight is not a problem. Control via the crown is very addictive and definitely more comfortable than clicking buttons. The UI is also a big improvement. The workmanship is excellent. The display is great too, no lagging, the system is smooth. I got a big software update right after turning on the watch.
So far it is very early, but I am satisfied and hope it stays that way.
Today I want to test it in the field and if necessary I will add more feelings 🙂

I’m sure you are going to be very pleased with this fine creation!

Been with a Suunto on my wrist since Ambit2
Currently alternating between Race titanium & Vertical titanium solar.
Would love a Vertical with amoled display.

I also live in Türkiye and I own a Suunto Race. It is really successful, I hope it achieves better things.💪😎

@peegee This might seem like a strange question! I see you use both the Vertical and the Race. Is the vibration alert on the Race as intense as the Vertical?

I ask because I need a navigation back-up to my Vertical that will also be used to give me reminders for various things and for use as a wake-up alarm so I do not need to stop the Vertical when recording a long, multi-day activity. Thanks!

Vertical user here. Ordered Suunto Race. Its ok watch, but on Vertical when i move hand i can read all the info from watchface. On Race i see only time (YES i know i can set wake up when move to see full watchface but than it becomes flashlight) :D. Its bother me so much, probably return and won’t sell Vertical. I love that its more read-able during trainings, becouse on Vertical it was not always. I like colors, crown is not bad but makes no difference for me, i like buttons. Also Vertical seems more like a tool, with Race Ti i feel like toy or too elegant thing. Vertical have perfect design (as Ocean, but never seen live) More “G-Shock” design, Race/Race S is more elegant to suit. Don’t get me wrong, Race is great, i just get used to these tank-type watch.

Damn. I wish we could have technology that screen is MIP, and after press button/surf menu/activities become AMOLED. Would be perfect watch for me. I think I’ll keep my great Vertical and buy Vertical v2 when release ❤

@Tami999 the design of Vertical it’s absolutely perfect.
The great form of rugged adventure/casual/sporty urban style.
Not a simply road marathon watch neither to much overbuilt (coros vertix/fenix)
A big thumbs up to the Suunto design team watchmaker/craftsman s

@gerasimos Yes, they nailed it completly, same as Ocean! I hope we will get similar watch in future!
Race seems so simple for me in real life, but still is great, I understand if someone like it. I must say Suunto got most beautiful sport watches if we talking about that. When I was completly yellow about sport watches I couldnt decide between Garmin/Polar/Suunto or Coros. Suunto won becouse I was told app is more simple that Garmin, with less useless stats that amateur will need + I loved 9 Peak Pro look (than switched for Vertical Ti becouse of maps + insane battery + it was perfectly looking one :D)

We should have that in a few years with microLED. Garmin microLED watches may come out as soon as this year, but for now it will likely remain a niche technology due to the high cost.

Have you tried changing the default display brightness to low? Also, some watch faces are less bright than others. I am quite OK with Athletics watch faces.

Yep, that was first thing I did (just like turn off crown vibration) when launched Race 😛
