Swim tracking still woefully inaccurate
-
Hey there!
im using Suunto Watches since 6 years, and i’m very happy with it. Startet with a 9 baro and moved to a race a year ago. Still very happy, because most of the time i was running (about 30km a week). Then i startet cycling and despite of using a Hammerhead Karoo (3), my watch won’t recognize the cycling Trainings, which is sad but not a dealbreaker for me.
With cycling i also startet swimming, what brings me to this thread.
First i trained in a 25m pool. The the lanes in the 25m pool was recognized relatively well but then they changed the pool to 50m swimming lane. Since then, my watch counts way to much lanes. Almost double of the distance i actually swam (of course i have set it to 50m lane). This issue makes my training records really inaccurate. I am into the numbers so, this is a dealbreaker for me an i already thought about switching to garmin or apple.
But I read some posts, where they mentioned, that there will be a fix for this and im willing to wait for it, because i really like my suunto race… can somebody tell me if they work on the problem?Also i want to ask: is there the possibility to track the lanes manual? For example by pushing a Button?
In an other Forum the mentioned to turn on the “auto lap” function, could this help with the issue?Happy to be here and thank you for the support!

@onemore I’ve yet to try it in a 50m pool… if I roll the software back to the October patch, that resolves it. I don’t know how it updated the other day as I’d turned OTA updates off in the app… I’ve now resorted to closing the app and only launching it to sync the watch and closing it again immediately after.

Hey there again!
today i did a 2km swim and counted the laps by myself, so im sure about the distance. My Suunto race added 800m to the finals result… i mean - looks great on my strava but f*cks up my statistics.
Here is a screenshot of the record:
seems pretty bad…

Same issue here. Done a previous post as well on this. During my swim yesterday, my Race S noted down 723 hours for a 125m freestyle interval.
My previous Garmin Fenix had some issues with swimming, but Suunto is taking the inaccuracies to a whole new level. They should stop listing “swimming” as an activity for this watch/software, because it is misleading. Shame because I was really happy with the watch.

Almost everyone has problems with swimming in the pool after the last updates.
Before, there were no problems, everything worked perfectly.
They wanted to improve and they ruined our swimming joy.
After the last (and also the penultimate) update, problems started with counting lengths, confusing swimming styles and unjustified division / grouping of swim sections (…)
I hope Suunto can fix this because in the last update there was no mention of improving swimming. -
@Artus-Diver
Today I have changed the software back to version 2.39.44. I will let you know if this is an improvement after my next swim. Fingers crossed -
@MGH82
For me the most stable version is: Rostock-fw_2.39.20.20609 (…)
I don’t know if the 2.39.44 software will help.Let me know about your experiences.

I can‘t find the 2.39.20.20609 on my race. Can i manually add it from a database or something like that?
The oldest version my race stored is:
Tianjin-fw_2.39.44.215

Try searching this post.
Be careful, make sure the firmware you want to flash is the right one for your watch.

@onemore is rücken butterfly in English? If so, that’s what mine always picks up despite me swimming freestyle
-
@MGH82 this is the version I have to keep rolling back to (even though I’ve disabled automatic updates, they keep sneaking on)
-
@susanmould No, Rücken is backstroke.
-
“Rücken” is “Rückenschwimmen” - swimming backstroke.
I have exactly the same.
I swim freestyle and it detects backstroke
Similarly, when I swim backstroke it detects “frog”.The problem appeared after update 2.39.44 and later it got worse.
On earlier updates everything was perfect for me.
Update 2.39.44 implemented a new algorithm for counting pool lengths which broke the recognition of swimming styles.
Eventually, “supposedly” the algorithm for counting lengths was dealt with but there is no one smart enough to restore the recognition of the style, certainly not soon!!!

@Artus-Diver thanks for confirming. It’s the most frustrating. You’d think that they’d just roll back to the previous stroke detection. I don’t even really care it doesn’t know what stroke I’m doing, it’s the fact it missed very obvious turns.
