Suunto Software update Q1 (2.53.42)
-
Congratulations to the entire Suunto Team for this wonderful update.

Pretty cool update!
As an S9PP owner, I’m not disappointed that there’s no more updates. The watch has matured pretty nicely and the biggest problem that I have is that I might change to something newer like Vertical 2, but… S9PP still works well and there are no cutting edge hardware features available in Vertical 2 line that would make me want to switch at this very moment.
I simply don’t understand the pursuit for the newest. It works. It’s reliable. Suunto App gets new updates, there are new S+ apps. Yeah, there’s no new firmware, but you can’t update the old watch forever. Anyhow, the S9PP was more of a proof of concept for the new UI and it got a ton of updates since its release.

Update went smoothly on my SRs ; live testing report on a small hike…it’s an awesome update !!
Climb v3.0 is perfect now !
Label on maps (altitude lines also for instance !)
Custom fields option on maps and guidance
Touchscreen to navigate from screen to screen !
WOW !!!
(Just now hope that SV1 get a few things, climb v3.0 And custom fields on maps and guidance - don’t need more and would definitely makes SV1 near perfect)
…
Awesome job !

@Miroslava Just send PM

I haven’t had a chance to test the new software in the mountains yet, but I don’t like the 40m distance, which will display an “off-route” message and will likely cause Climb Guidance to stop working.
In my opinion, this distance is definitely too short for more rugged terrain or, for example, in winter, when it’s not always safe to stick to the trail (avalanches).

@Łukasz-Szmigiel, no issues with 2.50.26?
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said in Suunto Software update Q1 (2.53.42):
@aiv4r I dont think its RIP. We could could not deliver the update in a stable way there. And for that we could not stall the updates for the other watches.
Does it mean that update for Vertical 1 should come in the next weeks ?
Or more with Q2 update ? -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos thanks for the Amazing update.
Depending on what will be delivered to V1, it can be frustrating to not have all features updated after 3 years for a watch like V1, which cost 800 EUR. Pretty painful to read. -
@Matúš nothing major. Bzzz bzzzz bzzzz that’s there since the very beginning and also some more bzz bzz bzz.

No improvement of the Resources algorithm?

The new off-route detection has no fixed distance anymore.
It is dynamic adjusting to your current speed and direction. -
@jannis i cannot say cause i dont know. But for the first time ever my Ressourcen goes down, i feel sick and the Ressourcen for the first time ever says this… Most of the time today i spent at the couch, cause i feel sick. And the Ressourcen goes down

In Normal day my Ressourcen goes up while sitting at the couch and the watch says Recovery. Hope the best for the Algorithmus
but i think Something new was changed with the Update from today

It is dynamic adjusting to your current speed and direction.Specifically, I mean the distance from the planned route, while moving more or less parallel to it.

I’m testing all the new features. I have to say the Suunto analysis, design, and development teams have done an excellent job.
Over the past months (even years… but let’s stick to the last few months), there have been many reports about improvements, missing features, bugs, and various suggestions, and I didn’t expect Suunto to take all the material shared on the forum and implement solutions for all of it in this update.
Really great work, but… it’s not over yet. There are still several things to fix (resource calculation, sleep monitoring, HR sensor crashes, multi-device sync optimization), but given this direction, I’m confident they’ll be addressed soon.
Keep it up, Suunto!

@Łukasz-Szmigiel Well said!
I was still hoping for some minor fixes but I can live with its current state.
Got my 9PP-T in Summer 23 and got 3 years of updates.
Now I hope for some more years of working as it is. -
@Łukasz-Szmigiel I had 9PP for a while, I think with all these updates, it has aged gracefully.

@isazi Hello Isazi,
I take the opportunity to push this “Max number of apps” issue: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/14940/bug-maximum-suuntoplus-apps-reached.If you there is a more proper way to report an issue, let me know. Thanks!

Why didn’t the Race 1 get the Map Labels Update?
-
I was really hoping it would be a New Features Test Day for me and my SV1. Alas, it’ll just be another trail run day without staring at my watch too much (which is arguably better!).
In a way, I’m actually relieved that my MIPs are starting to drop off the update train. I often struggle with the idea of having too much technology on my wrist. The more features my watch has, the more I want to interact with it. And I’m not sure that’s a good thing.
As @Łukasz-Szmigiel and others have said here, these watches have had a good run and are miles (kilometers?) ahead of anything I had when I first started trail running. Glad to hear that some of the updates will eventually be coming to the SV1 as there are for sure a few features I’m a little jealous of. As for the 9PP, I still think it’s one of the best minimalist sports watches money can buy.
(…although, I would love it if Suunto were able to fix a few of the niggles posted about over here.
