Q1/2026 New Feature Wrap-up with Janne Kallio
-
@pavel.samokha just to take into account that new maps in watch looks good and i think there is no problem with readability in my opinion compared to suunto app.
-
This update is great!
Some insights :-
I particularly like the Smart Autozoom Turns, it would just be even better if the zoom could also appear when you are not displaying the map.
-
It would be great to be able to display the average pace on the map.
BTW, happy with this update! Thank you

I havenāt had a chance to test the new software in the mountains yet, but I donāt like the 40m distance, which will display an āoff-routeā message and will likely cause Climb Guidance to stop working.
In my opinion, this distance is definitely too short for more rugged terrain or, for example, in winter, when itās not always safe to stick to the trail (avalanches).
The new off-route detection has no fixed distance anymore.
It is dynamic adjusting to your current speed and direction.I did a quick test, and itās even worse than I thought. After 40m, as expected, I got an āOff routeā message.
But what surprised me was that, according to the watch, I had to get within 20m to be back on route. So even when youāre just 21m from the theoretically planned route, you donāt have tools like Climb Guidance, ETA, etc. Thatās my first disappointment with the new software. -
@maszop as the GNSS positioning usally has a higher accuracy as 5m or so, it makes sense to be on the route to use the route features.
In some places, being 20m next to the route would mean being dead⦠-
Amazing update! Thanks Suunto.
I tried the Broadcast HR this morning, and it worked great! However, it looks like I need to re-enable it every time I start an activity. For some reason the setting does not persist unlike other settings in Exercise Options.
Is this a bug, or am working as intended? Or I am just missing something.

In some places, being 20m next to the route would mean being deadā¦Iām talking about places where thereās no trail, or where following the trail isnāt desirable for various reasons. When Iām in unfamiliar terrain, I create this type of basic route based on the map.

So according to Suuntoās new logic, am I expected to stick to this route religiously?
Thatās absurd. -
@maszop Sure, if following a route in an āoff trailā terrain, it would be useful to have an option to disable off route alerts. Although I donāt know how to still maintain climb guidance in that scenario, if at all possible.

Thatās how itās worked so far. The route goes uphill, and depending on local conditions, the actual path will be within a few dozen meters of the planned ātheoreticalā route. The statistics shouldnāt differ by more than the watchās accuracy.

Thanks, please keep me updated. My Suunto Race 2 is currently in the drawer and will stay there until the resources issues have been fixed.

Custom fields option on maps and guidance
Is one of the options distance to next turn? Because in custom sport profile builder in Suunto App I see only distance to end/ distance to next waypoint.
I have no way to test it with my Vertical 1 but if thereās distance to next turn, Iād be tempted to upgrade

@Jan-KrejÄĆ Yes! Hereās a screenshot from Joaquinās video
