Race 2 accuracy

@leafs93 I can confirm that. Same experience here.
Time to settle this with a measuring wheel.;o) -
I can add to and confirm too short distance here as well. This is near ideal view to the sky.
I get between 0,5& - 1% too short. This is measured over tracks I have ran a thousand times and confirmed with multiple various gadgets.
I’m with an R2 titanium.

I have confirmation, that Race2 indeed measures a little short, compared to other models.
cannot share more details, but the watch works as designed. -

@Egika I’m a bit confused by this… does this mean there’s likely to be a fix or are you saying it doesn’t need fixing?
-
@jjpaz I have a large number of trail runs with Race2 and V2 and they are essentially identical. I can share data, several different firmware and from 45 min to 7h trail runs. I am in the US with mostly open skies. Part of the observations may depend on the environment as I believe all of you that see shorter distances with R2. However, maybe not a firmware bug but maybe design differences including antennas. I always see fewer satellites connected to R2 than V1 or V2. Could impact distance when GPS conditions are more challenging.

@shamilt1 this will likely not change.
-
@Egika So unless I’m reading this wrong, Suunto either know that it measures distance a little short, but it was designed to do so…( I can’t understand why this would be the case!) or it’s not significant enough to address in an update. Personally I think it’s disappointing that it won’t be addressed.

It measures shorter than the other models. The question is is it more accurate, though?
-
@2b2bff I wrote about this before, but from my n=1 sample size, the Race 2 measures short, and is further from true distances than other watches from Suunto, COROS, and Garmin. I’ve measured it against a measuring wheel. Also, recent race performances by elites wearing the Race 2 in certified road races also have it measuring a bit shorter than race distances.

Nordic Walking on a measured loop of 2260 m:
March 31
Loop Race S Garmin 955 1 2277 m 2259 m 2 2263 m 2263 m 3 2267 m 2262 m 4 2255 m 2267 m April 19
Loop Race 2 Garmin 955 1 2244 m 2261 m 2 2241 m 2263 m 3 2244 m 2267 m 4 2242 m 2272 m 5 2238 m 2265 m On measured straight paths, errors were smaller.
