Race 3S & Race 3 rumours
-
Man, I am really glad I waited with the purchase of a Race 2, with those new models coming up soon!
-
@jthomi I don’t see any huge change coming from the Race 2 to Race 3… maybe some in-watch AI related thing (specific co-processor required), but I don’t think that Race 3 will come with major GPS + battery + screen upgrade, mainly because Race 2 is one year old tech. But we’ll see

PD: I’ve recently change my Coros Apex 4 to a Suunto Race 2, so maybe I’ll regret not waiting a little longer…
-
@usainzg Same here, but having an older model, there seems to be quite some options now for a never model. Also find it a little odd that there is maybe a Race 3 coming while the one still is new.
-
There is no rumors pointing towards a RACE 3.
Run 2 => tomorrow
SRs3 ? -
There is no rumors pointing towards a RACE 3.
That’s not entirely true… https://forum.suunto.com/post/196330
-
@2b2bff Let’s see what comes then !
I’m waiting for SRS3 specs to see if I upgrade my SRs -
@Tieutieu same for me…
-
@2b2bff But we shall not expect something for tomorrow except run 2. SRs 3 (and SR 3?) will more likely be announced later.
-
@Tieutieu I heard a while ago that Suunto aimed at September with the Race 3S. But who knows. Delays are always possible.
If the announce it together with the Run 2, there should be a strong differentiator, as the Run 2 seems to be very capable… -
@2b2bff why is not true? Where is the confirmation in that link?
-
@jjorgemoura I cannot follow everything he posted because of missing clickable links. But he searched in a couple of databases that are similar to the FCC in the US. There he found the listing of OW261, OW265 and OW266. The first is the Run 2, the latter are labeled as Race 3 and Race 3S.

OW261 can already be found at FCC, but not the other two. So, my guess is that they will launch later.

-
@GiPFELKiND what do you wanna tell me with this link?
-
@2b2bff ???
-
@GiPFELKiND you replied to my post explaining the “confirmation in that link” for the Race 3 to @jjorgemoura just with the link to the Run 2.
-
@2b2bff right.
I’m still not convinced about that. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. Unless Race 3 is a Race 2 with a different strap and watch face. Race 2 was launched 12 months ago. I don’t see Suunto jumping in a yearly release cadence. What would that means for the Vertical 2 for example?Also, Suunto just missed a great opportunity to launch a new watch at the UTMB week, where Suunto is a top partner, huge visibility, tons of potential “clients”. Again just doesn’t make any sense. However, maybe it makes sense for others/Suunto, that’s why Run 2 will be launched tomorrow. Maybe Run 2 is targeting a different audience of UTMB? For sure Vertical and Race are better propositions for ultra runners.
Nevertheless, let’s wait and see. If there are 2 other watches (other than Run 2) to be launched this years, I would bet in a Race 2S/3S + something else (Ocean 2, 2 distinct versions of Race S, something else) before bet my chips in a R3S + R3.
-
@jjorgemoura I somehow agree you because at the end there are still too many bugs and issues.
-
But I also think the current trend of the market is one new watch per year. I believe that if it’s profitable for the brand, it can be good for us too, as it can translate into more available resources. That said, it must be clear that previous models need a supported lifecycle—something that, unfortunately, still isn’t happening with the previous generation of watches. Focusing on the new models again, I’m afraid that both the Race 1 and Vertical 1 lost support much sooner than any competing brand’s models.
-
About hardware, there is always room for improvement. For example, adding a physical flashlight, microphone, and speaker (the Run 2/Race 2/Race S lacks these, so that already sets it apart).
BTW, Run 2 has globally been launched and it has a new HR sensor.
The new smart belt has also been launched. -
-
@jjorgemoura The Run / Run 2 is targeted at road runners first.
Also, I heard the partnership with UTMB ends this year, maybe that’s why they didn’t show any spectacular there, but who knows. Maybe the other watches just didn’t make it in time… -
@2b2bff speaking of rumors, I have read that Amazfit might take on the UTMB role next year. A little sad for Suunto, but Suunto has kindof missed the opportunities that the role could have brought if you ask me.
Also interesting to see that the number of athletes wearing a Suunto this year both in mens and women’s at the event have decreased.
-
@Stavrogin But I don’t find it strange that such a rumor is circulating. Amazfit is pushing into trail running very aggressively—last August, it signed Ruth Croft (previously with Garmin) and Roda Farvard and won two consecutive UTMBs, even though it supplies only a fraction of the watches in the field—two out of thirty men and one out of twenty women. At the same time, it’s already the official wearable partner and timekeeper for HYROX, so it’s already tested the “let’s buy the whole series” approach. So let’s see. Also contract with UTMB are for 3 years and Suunto is partner since 2024.
