Feature Request: Native and Integrated LiveTrack for Suunto Race 2

I would like to request the development of a native LiveTrack feature fully integrated into the Suunto Race 2 and Suunto App.

There is currently a separate application for live tracking, but in my experience it is not reliable enough for real-world use. The connection repeatedly gets lost and, so far, I have not been able to complete a single activity while keeping LiveTrack working correctly from start to finish.

I believe this functionality should be an integral part of the Suunto ecosystem and should work in a much more seamless and reliable way.

Functionality I would like to see

When starting an activity on the Suunto Race 2, the user should be able to activate LiveTrack directly from the watch.

      From that moment:

      • Suunto App should automatically transmit the user’s position.
      • Live tracking should continue even when the phone screen is turned off.
      • If the connection is temporarily lost, the system should provide automatic reconnection.
      • A temporary Bluetooth connection loss, mobile network interruption or app suspension should not terminate the LiveTrack session.
      • The user should be able to share a live tracking link with family, friends or other contacts.
      • The shared link should be accessible from any web browser without requiring the recipient to install Suunto App.
      • LiveTrack should automatically end when the activity is finished.
      • The system should be optimized to minimize battery consumption on both the watch and the phone.

It would also be useful to have an option to automatically enable LiveTrack when starting selected activities, such as Trail Running, Running, Cycling or Hiking.

      Experience with other systems

This feature is particularly important to me because I have used other devices and navigation/tracking applications.

I have used Garmin and have never experienced this kind of problem with live tracking. I also use Wikiloc and TwoNav, and I have never had connection problems that prevented me from completing an activity with live tracking working correctly.

This makes the current Suunto LiveTrack experience particularly frustrating. I consider the Race 2 to be an excellent watch, but at the moment I cannot rely on live tracking to work reliably throughout a complete activity.

I don’t consider the issue to be simply an occasional connection problem. For a LiveTrack system to be genuinely useful, especially for mountain activities, trail running, hiking or cycling, it needs to be reliable enough that the user can trust it throughout the entire activity.

      Request

My request to Suunto is to develop a native, integrated and reliable LiveTrack solution, directly linked to activities recorded by the Suunto Race 2 and Suunto App.

      The concept should be simple:

Start an activity, enable LiveTrack, and not have to worry about whether it will still be working when the activity finishes.

I believe this would be a significant improvement to the Suunto ecosystem, particularly for Race 2 users who use their watch for long-distance activities and outdoor or mountain activities.

        You forget some requirements:

When you follow a route on your watch, the website where other people can follow you should also show the route you are following.

(So my wife can comment that I didn’t follow the route exactly 🤣)

Also, the page on the website should under no circumstances obviously be linked to the user (either way. It should not be guessable what my follow me page is and if someone happens to grap the link it should not be possible to link that to me)

So, it should not be follow.suunto.com/athlete/elbee

        But some random follow.suunto.com/activity/74837379298374
