Maps Update Rollout, March 2026, Staged

@pavel.samokha the “Dubrovnik-Neretva” map does not seem to have been updated.
-
@Freezer my fault, this map shouldn’t be there. Just delete Dubrovnik and use the whole Croatia map.
-
Having had some time to use the new maps offline and on the vertical 2, they are a massive improvement.
I would like in the future for the maps on the watch to show main paths at 1km zoom. I know there will be limitations but often there is only one path on remote mountains and still being able to see it when zoomed out at 1km to give a wider perspective of the hills would be really useful. Especially if just exploring and not using a saved route. It would be also be nice to have city/large town names visible as well when zoomed out further than 2km.

Exactly! Not quarters names, just city names will be enough.
-
Main city names? If it is a main city I usually know it, and don’t need the name on my screen. It’s not that there are multiple main cities in view.
(I mainly use the maps for navigation on trailruns and don’t like much clutter on my display)
-
@elbee I meant city main names, not quartes names. Sorry, bad english

@pavel.samokha Ontario Canada also has no contour lines. Any idea when that will be fixed? Or is there a workout for another map to be downloaded to make it a useful system for off line navigation?
-
@Derek-Sheflin We were told that this wouldn’t be addressed until the next map update. It was two years between the last updates, so who knows. Might be over a year away before we get contour lines in the eastern half of North America.
Have you checked any of the western areas of Canada? I wonder if it is an east/west thing. In the US, the dividing line seems to be the Mississippi River. All states west of there have contour line. Eastern ones don’t.

It was two years between the last updates
Seems more like 3 years (Q2 2023 > Mar 2026)
-
@Squirrel Jeez, you’re right. Guess we’ll be waiting another 2.5 years to get our contour lines back.
Kinda seems like they just forgot to tick the “Contour Lines” layer box when they exported the new maps for eastern North America. I’m sure it isn’t that simple, but it would be nice if this were fixed sometime before the next overall map update. Especially since they knew about the problem shortly after this current update was released.
I hardly ever use contour lines on the watch, but there are quite a few scenarios where they’d be nice to have on the downloaded maps in the app (the issue affects these maps as well).
-
@duffman19 ah right sorry. I will have a look at western Canada. Was a little hopeful it would be sooner as I almost exclusively use it offline. I will have to wait!
-
Working on a fix.
Can’t provide you exact date, but estimate to have a fixed maps for you this year. I hoped to make it with global map updates, but if not possible then I’ll make a fix just for maps with missing elevation contour lines. To be specific affected maps are non-Europe territories within the red square on this image:

Again sorry for the inconvenience.

That’s correct if we’re counting only full global map updates. There were partial updates in 2024 and 2025, but those covered only selected European countries.
Map updates should definitely be more frequent. Unfortunately, that isn’t possible at the moment, but we hope to improve the update frequency in the future.

@pavel.samokha Awesome! Thanks for the update and communication. Hope we didn’t stir the pot too much.
-
@pavel.samokha that’s amazing! Thanks for looking into it.

Timely post to read. I live in the area with no contour lines and just spent a week in Colorado hiking. WOW what a help it was having the contour lines, I am someone who doesnit always use trails and it kept my phone in my pocket when bushwhacking and looking for routes on inclines.
Hoping we get the update sooner than later
