Suunto AI Coach discussion

@isazi also w EU accounts?
https://mcp.suunto.cn/mcpguide -
@Maryn no this is the China one
-
@isazi Is there another option available for EU accounts?
-
@isazi I just tried it and it works good for workouts, but the wellness data fails to load. I guess it will work once launched officially! Looks good!
-
@Maryn it is literally mentioned in the post I replied too

-
MCP works great with Claude. Iâm not really an AI fan, but it helps me a lot with context, and since I have to pay for Claude anyway for a project, I can at least make use of it until Suunto AI is available to everyone.

-
@martintrail I just connected to ChatGPT. Letâs see how it works in practice.
-
Approximately how much does it cost? (Roughly)
-
@Kraisun-Tunta this is free, it is just an API to access your data
-
The current tool list is brief and limited to read-only access:
- Get recovery summary
- List user workouts
- Get sleep summary
- List user routes
- Get route summary
- Get current user profile
- Get workout detail
- Get daily activity summary
Several items yield inconsistent data or less than what is described:
- Sleep stages, score, HRV and heart rate, but each night appears dozens of times, mixed with partial snapshots.
- Recovery - only body-resource % and stress state every 30 minutes. It doesnât include HRV or resting HR despite what the tool says.
In comparison, the Garmin MCP has 157 tools, Suunto 8 for now. So fingers crossed.
-
the Garmin MCP has 157 tools
I donât think Garmin has an official MCP. There are third parties, but theyâre unofficial, so in theory they could be blocked any day.

@pavel.samokha This is not what Joaquin is saying here: https://youtu.be/Fix3UdOd5Y4?t=1014
Based on Joaquin video, Suunto is using their userâs data to train Suunto AI. -
@LGoSo official video is above and confirms Suunto doesnât use your data to train AI models used in Suunto AI coach.
-
Any chances Suunto reconsiders the rollout plan?

-
@pavel.samokha So Joaquin is wrong. Perhaps someone at Suunto should tell him as he is part of Suunto team according to his youtube summary.
-
@LGoSo hi can you explain me the problem? I can explain you

-
@LGoSo I saw

Perhaps something was lost in translation in the video, or my explanation wasnât clear enough.

What I meant is that Suunto has more than 20 years of experience developing sports algorithms, and that we have brought those algorithms and that expertise into Suunto AI. I was not referring to training the AI on Suunto usersâ personal data.
I also explained that the AI learns about each individual user through their own chat to personalise the experience, but that this personal learning is not shared with other users.
My reference to âmore than 20 yearsâ was specifically about Suuntoâs sports algorithms and expertise, not usersâ data.
Also, this is explicitly stated on the Suunto AI Coach screen every time you open it: âYour data is not used to train AI models.â You can see this in the screenshot below. I think the wording is quite clear.

-
Hard to understand something else than that the data is directly used to feed the AI model.
But, whatever, as you said, you could have badly expressed what Suunto is doing with our data.
In addition, but this is more technical, if you are not using the data directly but the âinformationâ extracted from the data, you are not really using an AI as most of the people understand it now (data driven AI) but something closer to an expert system (rule based AI) or something hybrid. Is it the case? Just out of curiosity. -
@LGoSo thanks for quoting the exact wording. I can see why you interpreted it that way, and Iâm sorry I wasnât clearer. That wasnât what I intended to say. I was referring to Suuntoâs accumulated sports expertise and algorithms, rather than usersâ personal data being used to train the AI.
The personalization I mentioned concerns each userâs own experience, not sharing their data with other users. As stated in Suunto AI Coach, your data is not used to train AI models.
Regarding your technical question, I honestly donât know enough about the underlying architecture to give you an accurate explanation. Iâd rather leave that part to the technical team than speculate and create further confusion. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to clarify.

Garmin MCP is not official, yet some users are already testing it in beta. And yes, third parties are involved, and they provide considerably more. I expect Suunto to extend the MCP until the official launch, though they seem eager to announce unfinished products.
