Suunto Race 3S General Discussion
-
@Brad_Olwin
Here the Race S Ti - 450€
Race 3S Ti sapphire- 500€.
If they charge me 50€ for sapphire, then I get for free the better oHR sensor and other improvements?I think the newer OHR is better, at least for me. It matches what I get from the belt even interval running (I only tested this with Tempo but will be testing with running intervals. And, I did not test the 3S but use the new HR sensor on the Run 2 and other test watches). For me the OHR sensor and sapphire are worth it. Ordered one for my daughter as it is the perfect watch for her. She runs ultras and is quite fast so the battery in Performance mode will be more than adequate for 100 mile races.
-
@Brad_Olwin I’m not buying it but I like it very much. Hopefully, they add a stainless steel and MiP versions, so they can cover more potential customers.
-
Stainless steel bezel might be possible. Mips is out of the question. In the production process you can easily swap one bezel for the other, but you cannot easily swap display types. For one, a mip screen would be thicker.
Commercially, it would also not be smart. Most people like pretty screens. Only a few see the many advantages of mips (including me). Suunto don’t have the luxury to make watches for a small niche. They need cashflow.
-
Maybe the combination Steel bezel and Gorilla Glas. Then a 100€ price difference could be realistic. Like it was in the past with all other Suunto watches
-
@Egika i just put my comment here after watching DC review. What is your view on it?

Although I plan to keep using my race s for quite some years, a watch with just a steel bezel and gorilla glass for less would be preferred when I need a new watch.
(Do have to say, maybe I was lucky but I never scratched or scattered my screen. Someone in my athetics club changed from a fenix with saphire, to a forerunner with gorilla glass and now has a scattered forerunner 965 and he will never buy a watch without saphire again)

Another YouTube review - I feel the real comparison should be the Race 2.
-
Can someone help me? If I use Spotify, how can I get the music onto my watch? Do I need to convert Spotify songs to MP3 using a converter?
-
There is no direct link to import songs from Spotify to your watch and the licence agrement prohibits you to scrape songs from Spotify and put them on your watch manually. I don’t have a run or race 3s, so I don’t know how you would sync the scraped files (which you don’t have because not allowed) to your watch, but that would probably explained in the manual.
-
@Set_218 there is no legal way for you to get music from Spotify and export it outside Spotify itself
-
@Set_218 You can’t. You need your own DRM-free MP3/M4A files, meaning files you’ve purchased. MP3/M4A files downloaded for offline listening through subscription services won’t work.
-
@Steven-Hambleton Oh man I have so many disagreements with this guy doing review. I guess it is super subjective.
-
@aiv4r What do you mean? Just watched the video and mostly he is stating facts. Price, specifications and his own test results. I found it very interesting
-
@VoiGAS I mostly disagree on parts where he says “It is subjective opinion” about how he likes his watch and app, I like it way different. (for example “action button”, the app experience, strength training part in Coros, feel on hand, microphone and some other things )
Another thing he is comparing Coros map with Suunto “light map” at least he should try to use “high contrast” on Suunto also to have similar comparison. -
Another thing he is comparing Coros map with Suunto “light map”
I agree with him that Suunto maps lack contrast, especially rendering of trails. In both light and dark modes trails are often rendered as green on green so the contrast isn’t great. I use the hight contrast mode most of the time but it lacks other details and even it isn’t optimally high contrast because light grey color is used for the map elements rather than white. When I zoom out to 500 ft and 0.2 mi zoom levels trails become too thin and are difficult to see even on high contrast map. And I don’t even mention that with a Coros map I’d get a larger radius of visibility of trails.

now its Q4

whene come new updates in germany ?
-
@dani_degi the only thing I can tell you is that the R3S features not requiring new hardware will be part of the new firmware for Race, Race S, Race 2, and Vertical 2. Race and Race S get everything the others get, provided they have enough resources for that.
Other than that, Q4 firmware has many new features, but those cannot be disclosed until release.
