while I’m thinking about a sync button it would be nice to have a shortcut button that opens up a customizable shortcut list.
one needs quick access to dnd, watch faces and light settings… another one prefers to toggle touch activation, alarm clock and flightmode…

@Durri deserves credit for suggesting that: I merely paraphrased and seconded. But good to know you’ve seen the (10% back-)light on occasionally maximising battery potential. Good luck with the 0.25%/h goal; is that an officially specified capability?

As for the shortcuts, customisable “master” modes would be nice: each including a set of configurable button/touch assignments, etc.

Sounds slightly over optimistic. Suunto states that the 9 can get to 14 days in time mode (so I guess without HR and sleep tracking, and not connected to SA all the time), and 0.25/hr means over 16 days (almost 17).
A reasonable number would be close to 0.3/hr.

            @isazi
            I quote @silentvoyager observation

“S9B consumed 13% of battery in 44 hours, including 35 minutes of GPS activity without HR and 1 hour of gym activity with chest HR while syncing only to MC. That is about 0.23-0.25%/hour or 5.5-6% per day.”

From my experience Suunto promised the batterylife for A3PS to be 20h with best GPS and HR but overachieved as I tested once with my older used A3P black. Hence there are expectations 🙂

What worries me a bit is that I don’t use notification whatsoever and no sleeptracking at all and I know for sure that my watch does sync only few times a day. And I don’t even get close to 14 days. When I disable BT the numbers don’t change much…
I would like to learn what uses battery and how much. I will do some tests regarding this. I will not go crazy about that and will not discuss 3 decimals… but some learnings would be nice, just to know ☺

@TELE-HO Because Garmin is a smartwatch. And Suunto 9 is less “smart watch” than Ambit. It is trying its best to be a fitness tracker though.

What’s wrong with smart watch? Suuunto 9 and Spartan line could easily be smart watches. This can only raise up functionalities of the watch and increase selling. I personally wear my spartan baro all day, it tracks my steps and so on while I’m not exercising. Actually I exercise only few hours per week and other 99% I wear watch as a smartwatch? So I don’t see any contradiction between being smart watch and fitness watch. Actually suunto 9 and spartan lines are big enough to be smart watches too…

A true smartwatch is a watch that can run an arbitrary application that you can load on it. Apple iWatch is a smartwatch. Garmins are to some degree. Modern Suuntos are not, although they might become with SuuntoPlus. Currently they are just fitness watches - their functionality, with exception of notifications, is limited to a very small set of fitness tracking functions.

What is incomprehensible to me is why I have must to turn off my watch from economy mode when I want to use BT, while turning off flight mode . Wouldn’t it just be enough to turn off flight mode? Why so complicated?

I use my watch in economy mode and flight mode on. I work out three times a week and still have an incredible amount of clicks to turn on / off features.

@Durri if you mean power save by economy, that should include turning off all external communication (Bluetooth), so having also flight mode is redundant.

@isazi Yes, but I don’t understand the logic when flight mode is off I can pair devices only when the battery saver mode is off.

@isazi Now I have tested: Battery saving off, flight mode on. Unable to sync! Flight mode must be off. Unnecessarily complicated.

@Durri sounds logic to me, how could you connect to external devices in flight mode? Think mathematically as two sets, one including the other. Power saving mode includes airplane mode, while the other direction does not hold, and this is quite logic. The two modes have different use cases, and are both useful. You should simply not select both, as one implies the other. However, the fact that a user can select both at the same time is some kind of UI failure. Best approach would be for power saving to shadow airplane mode, so you can’t select both.

                                One thing!

Power saving mode is automatically disabled when you start and activity and that is the big diff here.

With power saving you can keep the watch in a low power state and it will enable all preferences before you go to run meaning connections to sensors etc, while flight mode is flight mode.

Flight mode disables ONLY connections for All time.

Power saving disables more than that including 24/7 HR and so on.

You can put both on top because they can easily overlap the use case scenario.

Main feature that I would like is the ability to lock buttons apart from retaining the ability to activate the backlight or change zoom level on navigation like on the Ambit. Apologies if this is mentioned somewhere above…or if there is a way that I’ve missed.

@be1t0n for the zoom thingy its not possible yet.

You can though lock the buttons with lower button hold, and then use the middle button to light up (or any button)

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Doesn’t pressing the middle button just cycle through screens though? Not much help if you’re navigating a track and need to check. On the Ambit you could press the lower right button and the light would activate without the “screen locked” alert popping up. Would just be a nice option to have. I find the "zoom thingy is a bit more of an annoying one as it requires an unlock before you can do anything.

@be1t0n you can do that as well. (press lower button)

You can also hold a little the middle and wont switch screens.

Since the buttons are locked you can also use the upper or lower to light the screen up right?

this whole button behaviour would be awesome to receive a little more customization… I think it would not hurt too much.
I don’t know how complex it is to setup, but I assume many users would appreciate and make use of it 🙂
