@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Now you are just teasing all of us who have to wait another 3 weeks. But yes, remote install is a fairly sweet feature on Android and by extension Wear.

@NickK @TELE-HO @Storz @Bulkan Now you see why I like this watch even though S9 is my go to for exercising. The WearOS opens up a bunch of opportunities for customization that were not there before like this:

Running in Boulder ain’t bad either.

                … yesss… make me jealous being in boulder… 😁

I frequently see people wearing apple watches and also in the gym playing around with it… I see a good market for this… but since I actually am an Ambit guy the S9 is already a big toy for myself.
I wont keep people from buying S7, but I don’t see this as a watch for me. I still have my A3PS but will give it to a friend of mine for testing…
                I can’t handle 2 watches 🙃

Hear, hear! You are preaching to the converted really! At least as @NickK is concerned ☺

If only Suunto added external heart rate… and a footpod. And intervals. And maybe sports modes customization 🙏 Then this magnificent device would have gone from a daily driver and an occasional recovery training tool to something that covers upward of 80% of my training. Of course, you can’t make everyone happy. But you can try!

I do believe this whole Wear OS thing works like a charm, with those shiny maps and all. But using Google is a big deal breaker for me. I just don’t want to share my data with them. And I hope the successor of Suunto9 won’t have those features.

Do you still have Locus Map on your Android? May you eventually try this app with S7?
                          https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asamm.locus.addon.wear

Tracking+HR+maps seem to be done one the phone, watch is only user interaction with app.
As almost all maps can be managed in locusmap, it could be something to be considered.
In this case, S7 won’t be used for anything else than extra phone screen, but, for my case, I almost always have phone with me.

@jthomi I don’t think so. You can sort of disable Fit on the watch (can’t be uninstalled, only updates can, but you can remove permissions thus hosing it) and uninstall on the phone. But for the watch setup and apps you still need Google account and services.

@Mff73 I have tried komoot and other apps like ghostracer that can connect to pods HR etc and all work fine.

Also today I found the heatmaps vs komoot (I use komoot) much better as I could see where people go in the wild.

Honestly I use both watches when I am in unknown territory from now on. S9 for the data etc and s7 for all the mapping + data + testing

@jthomi I have another Wear OS device that would work exactly the same way as S7. When you setup your watch, you need to update and start Google Fit on the watch, then give permissions to Fit to access sensors and collect data. Otherwise, it’s not working.

That being said, Google account is required for Wear OS, so you may avoid sending your heart rate and workouts to Google, but they would still very much know where and what you are up to.

You can skip copying the account data to the watch during setup (maybe, haven’t tried it) but then it means you won’t get any app updates for preinstalled apps, won’t be able to download new apps, calendar would be missing, and app notifications might be limited. So, your S7 becomes kind of S9 without bulk of sports features and with two days battery life.

@Fenr1r Both I’m afraid. Given they track your location even when location services are explicitly disabled, I’d say fighting El Goog (and Apple by the same token) is kind of pointless. This battle has been lost. Besides, here in the US carriers are busy keeping track of your location by triangulating your phone’s signal and selling this data to anybody who asks. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of those is Google. Perhaps they even have a nice and friendly data sharing agreement of you scratch my back, I scratch yours variety.
