@Luís-Pinto Yeah… It’s playback for your phone controls. Not the real offline sync and playback on the watch without a phone. At least that’s what it was up until now. DCR had a few words to say about this in his overview comments too.

@NickK but do you see Spotify icon? It can’t be music controls.

@Luís-Pinto I have a Brooklyn bridge to sell… Man, you are easy to trust!

            https://www.drmare.com/spotify-music/play-spotify-on-wear-os-smartwatch.html

Repeat after me: this isn’t a real app. You can’t download your Spotify playlist and play it off the watch without a phone. Period. Welcome to a wonderful world of misleading marketing.

Google play music allows you to download music on WearOs and enjoy it off line.
There’s another app doing that on WearOs, can’t remember the name but it’s not one of the well known streaming service apps

Also to add there are a few ways to send even MP3 to the watch and play them with a player app.

Google play music that has DRM will “damage” about 22% the battery per hour , connected to BT earphones.

Gplay music noDRM about 10-18%? (not exactly sure yet). You can upload to Google play music your MP3’s FYI or if you have music bought it’s not DRMed.

I think this will be a very interesting subject for many users.

However, Spotify might make some move since its a well requested feature

@jean-william-cousin Google Music would indeed provide the offline playback, but from what I understand a lot of people use Spotify for social/playlist aspects of it which isn’t matched by Google Music. Also there’s an issue of catalogue size, which in the past was significantly larger for Spotify. But yeah, if offline music playback is what you seek Google Music and Pandora are there.

It was not available in Tizen nor in Garmin for a long time. But meanwhile it’s working there.

I think there will be a full featured spotify app in wear os too in the future.

Google is not interested in developing such an app. There is play music. 😊

I think that most of the people don’t leave their house without a smartphone. And in my smartphone there is Spotify with all features. My smartwatch is only the backend to manage the songs and adjust the volume.

@pilleus Well, then you don’t need any apps at all and can simply use Wear OS media controls, which handle everything including volume and even show the artwork!

For me offline playback is the feature. My phone stays at home if I’m running in the neighborhood and in the car when I’m in local parks and/or trails. I think I was leaving it at the hotel even when I was running in foreign countries. Yeah, that’s why offline maps are nice to have too!

Personally, I never really got into Spotify, so can’t care less. Between Pandora to discover new stuff based on my arguably non elitist tastes and Google Music subscription, I’m covered.

But people who are on Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer and rest should be made aware…

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos You understand it correctly. Some poor soul took an Android app, knocked and filed away a few protrusions, pressed it down to size and called it Wear OS ready. I’m not sure I want to sideload this abomination on a watch though 😰

Spotify made it to Garmin after a while. I think a full app was on Samsung watches? It’s not coming to Apple Watch because they have major disagreements with Apple, not to mention serious competition. But maybe Google will be different?

Is that so? Because that’s a fairly sad number. Basically 4 hours with GPS and music (closer to 4-5 hours non-DRM). I think my Adidas Smart Run, Rest In Peace, from 2013 lasted as much.

@NickK yes I think that is correct as of hour to what I get. I will test more and tell you.

I am not sure if its the app that consumes so I want to also test plain mp3.

FYI for all here. We forgot Mp3 but there is a little nasty hack here. There is an offifcial app that can download from Gplay music DRM free mp3s. PM only this

                                        Screenshot 2020-01-19 at 18.02.37.png

Todays run with Google Play music downloaded offline

I run a bit more than 2 and a half hours.

Battery estimation is at 5.5h with this setup.

                                        BT on
                                        WIfi on
                                        Always on Screen on
Some flickering to check maps and quite a few pauses / laps
                                        Touch on
                                        Music controls on

The music should not be DRM as it was my own composed mysic that I have uploaded. However, looking at the filesystem of the watch I could not find any real mp3’s to open them with another app so this is suspicious.

Also with DRM mysic I dont think this would be so much as of an estimate.

                                        I hope ti helps.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos it’s possible to configure this settings per sport profile or this settings apply globally?

I have another question: Did you try to use suunto 7 to run indoors? How exact it is?

@jorgefd78 nope I have not tried that. Also not possible to configure “battery” modes per sport. However, you can easily turns tones off on though and some other settings in realtime during the activity.

That said you knwo you can exit the recording app and do what you like with it.
