    Hello I’m new to Suunto and thrilled to all the cool features. I’m also interested into simple navigation features like orientations and rout finding on contour lines. It is the most important feature for mountains guides and alpinists in winter when going ski tours. Of cause planing your route is the basic of the trip but some times a map full of contour lines would be a good feature (especially wenn orienting in dangerous situations when the weather is foggy). For me navigating on maps with contour lines would replace my iPhone completely.
    As I said I’m interested in simple features so I totally happy with the ambit3 peak, except the navigation feature. So this would be an amazing update and purchase argument for a lot of alpine guys.

      @chjordan
      Are you talking about watch feature or app feature ?
      Maybe this is the wrong area as far as I’ve understood your suggestion.

      SVTS - 2.40.38
      SSSWHR BARO Amber - 2.8.32

      Samsung A33 2022 - Android 14 - One UI 6.1
      Suunto App Android 5.2.5 beta
      Suunto App IOs 2.45.0 (19123) beta on MBP M1

        @sartoric
        maybe both 🙂

        For planning in the app it would be a must have. Cause people who use Suunto watches are often alpinists and nothing would be easier to plan a Skitour on the app based on contour lines. Additional a lot of maps online also calculate the gradient of locations e.g. >30°, >35°, >40°.
        I can imagine that showing contour lines on the watch could be a challenge. For me planing a trip on the day before is the key, but in most cases you need to edit your plan and navigate based on contour lines and feature point in the map.

        Summarised both Points (app and watch) would bring the navigation feature for Suunto on a next level.

          oh sorry… i see that contour lines in the app already exists, even if the resolution is not that good as e.g. Bergfex.at

            Contour lines in the watch during route navigation would be amazing! Even if you don’t have full fledged maps, just having an idea/picture of the terrain around you and where you route lies relative to it would be very useful

              Agree, but that would require a map layer, as contour lines are not part of the “route” data.
              That is not possible afaik and of course not the watch actual “purpose”.
              I mean, it wasn’t designed to show maps.

              anyway @chjordan I’m moving this discussion to the watch (S9?) area

                Anyway, see it as a “User-Story” and maybe communicate it to the developer team. 👨‍💻

                Additional, it would be good to see those features on the ambit, cause that’s the classic model which use mountain-guides and other alpinists. There is no sense of purpose to use those newer (expensive) clocks with additional features of smart watches. I know that there are a lot of competitors on the market, but don’t forget the main (often simple) things of outdoor watches. However I think Suunto is still on the right way 👍
