Please can we get a sports profile for surfing? I use a S5 and it would be great to have a dedicated mode for the sport.

At least if it could record time, distance, hr, gps tracks and if possible have a wave counter and length of wave surfed.

Even better would be include tide data based on local tide station. It could be pulled from phone and cached to enable viewing for the day or use gps to find nearest station and hook up from there.

A tide feature would be great for water sports and anyone who lives by the sea and exercises running, walking dogs etc as lots of places are tide dependant.

This is definitely something Suunto should look at and whack it on the S5 as soon as!!!

I assume we’re talking about wavesurfing because there are dedicated profiles for wind- and kitesurfing.

Recording time, distance, hr and GPS track should already be possible in every sports mode. I would suggest selecting “Other” for your sport
I do have some doubts about the GPS track however. I think you will get a very inaccurate track, because as we know GPS signal and water don’t go along very well. So I suspect you will get OK tracks while riding the waves, although I am not shure about tight turns, but you will get very inaccurate tracks while paddeling

Wave counter and length of wave surfed will require a whole differnt algorithm and I doubt Suunto will ever implement it because of the inaccuracy in water.

I agree. Tide data would be great!
Tide data based on time (low/high tide) should be very easy to implement imho. Just as moon phases it is possible to calculate them. Based on local tide station would require an addition of Suunto App I guess as the watch itself has no internet connection.

@surfboomerang you cannot reliably calc tide info without a source and only from GPS afaik

          @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
I don’t have detailed information, but in MC there was an Ambit app for tides. The developer mentioned that it has to be adjusted very frequently and it appears to be quite a challange to calculate it.

there are several watches from quiksilver, nixon etc that connect to magic seaweed to show the accurate tides, plus the forecast for your favourite spot(s)(?)…
magic seaweed also shows highs and lows because they are not always the same.
honestly, this is so much information, I prefer to look that up on the phone. because tides is not everything. much more important is swell period, direction, height, wind direction and speed etc…

I don’t argue. Just saying that gps only won’t work. Other solutions will work. We spent a lot in r&d to bring the tides in the new watchface and it failed. (gps only )

It would have been so cool!!
What about having tides in the Suunto app, and then info sync with the watch? We can have our emails on the watch, it must be possible to have tides for a specific area.

I know we have got all the information we want on our smartphones and that there is much more to surf forecasting buoys, period, direction etc but I have a Casio gshock tide watch which shows basic tide data based on coordinates and lunitidal data and it has come in handy so many times. Loads of places surfed are off the beaten track where there is no cell phone connection and sometimes a quick check of data on the fly can be vital or refresh the memory. I have since swapped my gshock out for my S5 and It would be great to have tides as an option. Surely it’s an algorithm that could be programmed to different locations? (not that I would know). I guess it may not be up there as a priority but It would be great if Suunto could add surfing as an individual sport profile at least, and surely would fit in as an adventure sport for an adventure company. Could use virtually any profile that tracks GPS distance.
Use manual lap option for start and end of wave, can also then use that to count caught waves.

@reesmt78 Me too!! But unfortunatelly it still fails to show tide info. Sounds so trivial…
