@egika But, the light will now turn on with every button press and it will even turn on automatically on every notification (messages etc.) unless you have DND on. So, you don’t need to get that shortcut without backlight.

I really loved the toggle mode on my Spartan Trainer with a dedicated button press for backlight. But on Suunto 9 it wasn’t very practical for me. To check the time at night, one had to wake the touchscreen by a button press and then tap the screen with two fingers (which usually failed for me like three times before I managed to turn the light on). So I switched to automatic backlight (turns on with every button press), but from time to time I was missing the ability to turn the continuous backlight on easily. Now I have both 🙂

      SV: fingers crossed :D
S9 (non-baro): died after 2 months, replaced, holding strong since 03/20
Spartan Trainer: casing broke after 23 months, repaired, lost watertightness 5 months later, died
Despite some pretty bad luck, I still love Suunto!

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos with suunto 5, Will I still be able to toggle backlight with long press of upper left button or this functionality is removed ?

@inkognito thank you, I got it.
Think I will have to live with this, as it was necessary to streamline SW to the Peak model which has advanced backlight features.

Anyway, those new possibilities are not so much for me. I like no backlight at all most of the time (partly to save battery, partly not to disturb others).
I like no light with every buton press, nor with every notification. Just with notifications and the toggle tap.

Let’s finish this as it can’t really be resolved, and check out some other new features 🙂

t6, S6, Elementum Terra, Ambit 3 Sapphire, Spartan Ultra Copper, Traverse Alpha, S7 Graphite LE, S9B Ambassador, S9P Granite Blue Titanium, S9PP Titanium Sand, Vertical All Black, Race Titanium Charcoal,
Race S All Black - TI Canary - Titanium Courtney

Great update, thanks suunto! That’s a lot of features btw.
Does the altitude also gets “corrected” using snap to route?
This would make my non-baro hill repeats so much better XD

                      • For using snap to route do not abuse it. No loops (ie track and field) and no reverse routes.

OK, so if I have 4-5 mile trail loop I intend to run 2-3 times, will snap to route work in this case? Or a 1.25-mile loop in the park that I intend to run, say, 8 times?

@nickk you need to build a route with the number of loops you expect at the park. Not one route you are going to restart plenty of times. I am not sure, though have not tested the loops. I just know what I got told.

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos OK, that sounds reasonable but let me test the abuse version first, i.e. running same loop multiple times and see what happens 😊

Perhaps, if creating multiple loops is a requirement we can get a Loop feature in the route creation tool in the app? You let the app close the loop and then loop automatically a specified number of times?

Because doing it manually on a 5-mile loop with plenty of turns is an exercise in frustration. It would be easier to edit GPX file directly.

@nickk if you have run this before, you could use the existing training as a route template.

Personal comment: I don’t like running in loops, it’s boring…

@egika I suppose depends on where you live. Most parks and forested areas within 30-40 minute drive around me offer about 4-5 miles routes. You can stretch it to 8-10 by taking every turn on every trail or pass, but if you need 15-22 mile run you will have to revisit places.

I’ll need 45 min+ drive to the closest state park where the route lengths are indeed unlimited, but terrain there is technical. Maybe @Brad_Olwin would enjoy. I’m still growing into trails.

It’s either that, or running dusty, dirty, and smelly streets where every fifth car is driven by a maniac checking his phone and blowing past Stop signs. I’ll take a picturesque lake loop over this every time.

@nickk @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I tried to test this using an extremely small loop 3 times now. Only one loop was in the route.

1st loop: Snap to route worked perfectly.
2nd loop: No movement was recorded, watch thinks I was standing still (anyway, the loop was extremely small (172 m), I haven’t even moved more than 100 metres from the starting point at any moment, so this might have influenced it).
Now I quickly switched to Find Back and then to Snap to route again and:
3rd loop: after triggering the Snap to route again it worked great.

So, probably one loop in the route works fine if it doesn’t bother you to switch to “Find Back” or “Breadcrumb” and back to “Snap to route” at the end of the loop 😄

EDIT: I made another test on larger loop. Additionally I found this:

                                      • If you continue after the first loop without taking any actions, you will “only” loose 100 m of data… First, the watch thinks you’re not moving, then after 100 m it notifies you that you’re not on the route and then immediately follows the notification that you’re back on route and snap to route starts working again.
                                      • You don’t have to take any middle step (like find back or breadcrumb) while you trigger the new loop. Simply directly select Snap to route and choose the route.

                                      SV: fingers crossed :D
S9 (non-baro): died after 2 months, replaced, holding strong since 03/20
Spartan Trainer: casing broke after 23 months, repaired, lost watertightness 5 months later, died
Despite some pretty bad luck, I still love Suunto!
