      Hi community,

I had a strange behaviour of my Suunto 9 Peak when recording a track recently:

In the middle of the tour the recorded GPS track stops for some time and only continues more than 2 hours later.

See the attached screenshot from the app:

From the blue-white point it jumps directly in straight line to a point much later, missing out the actual track which I added in pink.
The actual height profile at the bottom is however correct and shows the increasing altitude towards the summit and down again.

It seems to me has GPS recording some stopped working, but I have no explanation for this.
The watch always displayed proper recording values, as far as I remember when looking at it during the tour.

Does anybody have an idea what this could be?
Is it a bug or do I miss something?

      Thank you!
      Günther

@guenthi very strange. Did you maybe press pause by accident?

@guenthi it seems to me the watch just lost GPS track - uncommon but happened to me several times as well. The surrounding mountains block GPS signal and the presence of a lake doesn’t help either - GPS signal gets scattered.
Height profile is fine because peak relies on baro sensor for that.

P.S. props for ascending Sonnenspitze, cool stuff!

@isazi Hi, thanks for the comment - yes I also thought about that, but when paused you only see the respective paused screen with options to continue or end the activity, but I looked at the watch several times during my ascent and it always showed the normal recording screen with time, height, etc. Therefore I don’t think that I paused the activity.

@guenthi alright. How long ago did this happen? If it is less than 24h we could try with you sending logs to Suunto to investigate. Another thing would be to share (if possible) a link to the activity so that someone at Suunto can check in the raw files if there was something wrong with GPS. I used extensively the S9P this summer in the Alps and Appenines and never had GPS lost.

@dmytro Thank you, yes it’s a great tour!
I don’t think that the terrain there is such that GPS should be lost for a longer amount of time (more than 2 hours!), the surrounding mountains are far enough away.
I also looked on my iPhone with the map a few times and it always located me exactly.
And yes, you are right, baro based height is independent of the GPS…
anyway it seems obscure to mee…

@isazi That was on Saturday, so two days ago…
I’m glad to share the data for analysis with Suunto, do you have a tip what I should do to get in contact?

@guenthi of course I wouldn’t expect something like this to happen every time to every device, but it still seems to me like a lost GPS signal.
Something similar happend to me while hiking around Obersee, near Berchtesgaden.Screenshot_20210927-114113.png
And I wouldn’t say that the area was too narrow either.

@guenthi well I cannot access the raw JSON data of you activity. If you have Android and look into the forum you can find a way to locate them on your phone, and then share them here or use QuantifiedSelf.io to do some checks yourself. Otherwise someone at Suunto (I can only think of @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos but maybe also @pavel-samokha could help) needs the link to your activity to access the data.
                      You can also contact support.

@isazi I contacted Suunto support but I only received the meaningless answer that this might be an error and it has never happened before for anyone else 😞
So the usual unhelpful stuff you get from service…
