      In the instructions it says:

      5.11. Fitness level
The estimation of your fitness level is based on detecting your heart rate response during each recorded running or walking workout. To get your fitness level estimated, record a run or walk with a duration for at least 15 minutes while wearing your Suunto 5 Peak.

How accurate will the calculations be if walking on sand?

@Hamilton calculations are not accurate for walking of any kind.

@Brad_Olwin Thank you for your response. I understand that the calculations may not be entirely accurate for walking on any surface. However, despite this, these calculations remain valuable to me. They help me assess my level of physical activity and progress even in conditions of uncertainty. Ultimately, they serve as a kind of guidepost for me in the world of sports and health.

@Hamilton The problem is VO2M from walking is wildly inaccurate so I would not use this as guideposts. However, if you compare pace to HR during your walks that should provide a much better indicator of your fitness. You should see pace increase and HR go down over time. I personally would not trust the VO2M from walking. In fact even for high intensity running my VO2M from the watch underestimates what I get from lab testing.

@Hamilton I also found that my resting HR is quite a good indicator of fitness, though it reacts slowly to changes.
