@EzioAuditore Wanted to add that REST doesn’t happen only during sleep. It can happen throughout the day while in rest mode. So that might be another reason why measuring HRV during the day is useful.

        How about data privacy?
Is the captured data stored on European servers and does it stay theree? Or is is transferred to Chinese servers?
Which 3rd party companies have access to this data?

        Thx for the feedback…

Yes, rest can happen during the day, but there are too many other stressors that affect HRV. Interpreting HRV as a value throughout the day involves just way too many variables and is complicated (currently impossible). If you look into literature, currently agreed on as the best method to determine recovery with HRV is one measurement early in the morning in always the same position. This should eliminate as much variables as possible and allow at least some (!) interpretation. Suuntos approach is close to that.

Garmin calculating it all day long doesn’t mean that it always provides useful insights 🙂

Hi, on my SRs I have that problem witch sleep 🛌 and nap 😴 detection. On this night it’s second time that my sleep is a long time nap 💤.
Before every thing was fine, what have change?

Orange color is a Nap. Purple is a sleep.

Hi, first question here. I have Race S and was wondering should crown be really easy to turn, as in apple watch for example or stiffer? It’s guitar stiff to turn with finger, it turns but I would wish it was easier.

@nicovoim Seems like quite a few people are having issues with it. Mine’s a little hard to turn, though not as bad as yours.

Hi. I am now on my second Race S, as the crown of the first one was rather stiff.

I mostly had to use two fingers (thumb and index finger) to scroll or to pressure quite hard with my index finger from the top to rotate the crown. But then the watch moved on my wrist.
Now, my second watch is better and the crown rotates much better. But still not that smooth as an apple watch (just mention for comparison reasons).

But you should be able to rotate the crown with the index finger with not too much effort.

If you are still able, return the watch and get another one.

Surprisingly, my second unit, which works good now, has been produced some weeks before my first one, which I returned.

                              Hi,

Owner of a suunto race S for 2 weeks coming from an ambit 3 and I’m very happy with it, especially the design, small size and user interface. Kudos to Suunto for a great watch !

                              Some comments /questions :

                              • when not using the watch, the battery goes down fairly fast. I don’t made precise measurements but few percentages every hour, is it expected ?

                              • I tried creating a course in the suunto app and enabled turn by turn, it worked fine. Then I created some routes in komoot and strava, their were sync and I’ve selected turn by turn but there was no turn by turn. What am I missing ?

                              • when wearing the watch sleeping with the HR unselected, it didn’t record the sleep or HRV. Should we always select HR on while sleeping ?

                              Some wishes :

                              • It would be nice if there was a way to customize the activity data fields during the activity, similar to what we can do with a wahoo bolt v2 bike computer

                              • NGP/GAP as a native field would be useful. I’m mostly a trail runner and what I look at is : VAM, HR, elevation, GAP/NGP, pace

                              • more colors on the “climb” page would be nice. For trail running maybe something like : easy (<5%), moderate (~5-15%), severe (> ~15%) ?

                              • Climbs auto detection with no loaded course, similar to what garmin/wahoo do on their bike computers. It could be harder to have it right as they can be many forks in trails resulting in many “false positive”

@Stoke80 Thanks for reply, I went today to the retailer and came to conclusion that it wasn’t normal, little screeching sound came from crown and it was stiffer in other way than otherway. Well I got it replaced and this new is much better. I can rotate it with one finger and yes it’s not as easy as in og Race or AW but much much better than earlier watch. Great watch all in all and even though I looked Garmin also, this just has all the features and much better build quality so it was easy choice to continue with Race S 😄

                                  • regarding battery when not wearing the watch maybe turn on airplane mode. no idea but it might help 🙂

                                  • vaguely remembering I needed to do something when first creating the komoot route to get it to do turn-by-turn. Sorry I can’t remember better.

                                  • You do need daily HR enabled to track sleep, naps, hrv, daily resources etc.

                                  • I don’t know if you mean during an actual activity or beforehand but you can customise the activity screens beforehand in the app - go to the sync screen by tapping the top left icon, wait for a sync to complete then scroll down to the option to sports mode customisation. You can’t customise the default sports but if you create a new one you can setup the ‘pages’, choose what fields to show etc.

                                  • I agree NGP would be a good native field to have. I believe elevation might an option already. The Training Peaks suuntoplus app can show NGP.

                                  • the climb functionality is very new and I’m sure they are going to improve it - the colours show on the route elevation profile in the app so hopefully they will make it to the in-activity display too.

                                  • I think it would be tricky to predict climbs because, unlike garmin, the suunto watches don’t have the ability to auto-route within the watch. As such, they don’t really “know” about the road/path/trail you are actually on. It would be nice to have info on the climbs you have already completed, maybe. Or possibly they could do something with pushing the routing to your phone app if you have it with you.

I have been using Race S now for a week and am puzzled by the battery consumption. With 24/7 heart rate tracking and AOD off (raise to wake) battery consumption is about %1 per hour, which seems awfully high. And this is without any vigorous activity or training of any kind. Is this in line what you guys are getting?

@sracer no, I’m seeing longer battery life than that. I received my Race S last Tuesday, charged it fully, worn it 24/7 with daily HR, HRV, raise to wake (display on ‘low’), phone notifications turned on and also done 4.5 hours of activity (2.5 hours gps, external hr band, AOD + 2 hours no gps, internal HR and display off) and my watch is currently saying 25% battery remaining.

I got my Race S last Friday and I really love it! I’ve been using a Suunto 9 Peak Ti and before that a Spartan Sport, an Ambit, and my first was an Altimax. I love Suunto watches.

The only problem I’ve been having so far is with the map. For some reason it’s not showing up for me. I live in Connecticut and have downloaded the Connecticut map. I’m running the latest version 2.35.36. I’ve tried a soft reset several times. I’ve deleted and re-downloaded the Connecticut map. Yet still no map shows up during activities or in general.

For example, here is what I see for the map screen during a bike activity yesterday:
                                          SuuntoRaceS.jpg
I have a good GPS signal, the compass is calibrated, I’m getting a GPS track, the software is current, it was a beautifully clear day, everything up-to-date, I confirmed the Connecticut map was downloaded, I synced with the Suunto app right before the activity, etc.

This has been the case for all my rides, runs, and open water swims since I got the watch. The map hasn’t shown up for any of them, and it also doesn’t show up when not doing an activity.

                                          Any suggestions??
