It is currently being sold in China. -
On Reddit someone mentioned that they be selling it in Russia and Hongkong is rolling it out by the end of October.
-
@daveathletic Thats a strange go to market strategy for a finnish company…
-
@VoiGAS can’t figure that out either. Don’t know how they handled it with the normal Race, if it also was selling first in Asia and so on…
Do they not do worldwide releases all at once or is this too much in terms of capacity??? -
@Jin-Kim Online shopping malls such as Jingdong and Taobao in China are currently selling the titanium version as well, and until August 31st, the new strap of the UTMB version was sold at a slightly cheaper price along with the titanium version.
The titanium version has two strap options, white and dark charcoal. It has the same shape as the Suunto Athletic 5 strap, so it has many diagonal hatched holes, is transparent, and looks more breathable.
The measured body weight of the titanium version is 35g, and the stainless steel version is 42g.
So it is exactly 7g lighter.https://youtu.be/ze_Typej9Cg?si=GfYyqkJZ09YGc4Cw

@daveathletic I think the race s titanium version is all made in china and was released first because the suunto market in china is relatively large.
-
@JVMT74 It is currently being sold in China.
-
lol. Never thought I would associate a Suunto watch with a need for screen protector but it seems even the video is advocating to use one if you need. I am guessing the titanium model also has gorilla glass, which is a shame. Such are the times under current ownership.
-
@altcmd the Suunto portfolio has different models with different features.
There have always been super tough and rugged models and also more entry level ones.
I think this is standard product management and not ownership dependent.
Look at Suunto 5 or Suunto 3 for example. And even Ambits were available with both sapphire and plastic screens. If you are looking for sapphire, there are Race, Vertical and S9PP in the current lineup with this kind of screen. It totally makes sense to have a more cost effective offer that saves on this kind of feature.
btw: my Race S has taken quite a beating since beginning of the field test and the screen is pretty much unaffected.P.S.:
If you had lived in China, you would know that most Chinese people leave the protective plastic even on the car touch screen etc… -
@Egika yeah, I know. I have been using Suunto since Ambit 2 and those were rock solid. Although invariably you do get reports that devices stop working after even a small fall (see Reddit).
My point being, Suunto always has stood for quality and quality materials, and to me, personally, if a titanium Race S were to come to EU markets without sapphire glass, this would be a major slip for them. -
@Jin-Kim thanks for the reply, yeah get it, anyway, do you have any infos according to availability in Europe? Or is this still a mystery
-
Anyone noticed that the Titanium version is on their website now??
But not possible to add to the cart right now.Update: Now the added a date, 15 of October will be the start for orders.
Nice, finallyhttps://www.suunto.com/de-de/Produkte/Sportuhren/suunto-race-s/suunto-race-s-all-black/

@daveathletic Still made in CN and still gorilla glass. The 100e bump for fractional less weight and titanium rim seems rather steep. But I guess worse crimes have been committed by the likes of Garmin and Polar. Unfortunately, not for me! Love the bands though.
-
Why no sapphire?
-
@Łukasz-Szmigiel because Race S is at a lower end in the portfolio than the Sapphire models
-
@Egika maybe you have forgotten about the 9PP and where it sits in the portfolio now.
-
@altcmd you mention it “where it sits now”
When introduced the S9PP was the top of the line model.Suunto 5 was the non sapphire model at that time.
Anyway, we don’t need to argue. This is obviously a portfolio decision. And as with every decision, someone has take it and not everyone loves it.
-
@Egika ofcourse, I only referred to it from this point because when released, 9PP was quite an overpriced watch for what it was.
But yes, I agrees, let’s not argue

S9PP overpriced? You’re talking about the S9P right?
-
@altcmd I disagree with your opinion on the 9PP. I have purchased two of the recent watches from Suunto for myself, the 9PP and the Vertical. I still use the 9PP and wish that a 9PP-sized Vertical was made. It would be the only watch I would need.
