TrainAsOne

So I Made the Switch!
I can confirm that TrainAsOne works very well with Suunto, with a few surprises:
- GPS track and pace seem much more accurate. On my Garmin, my pace would fluctuate wildly, especially under trees, and often gave paces that felt completely off. With the Suunto Race S, it’s much steadier and matches how it feels. I assume this will impact the TrainAsOne assessment.
- On Garmin, for trail runs, I would usually get an error about “cadence data containing zero-value points, all data ignored.” With the Race, I get full cadence data and no errors from TrainAsOne.
Weird:
- Workouts are called “Guides.” They seem to work the same, but there are no audio/vibration warnings when you go out of range.
- In my time zone (Asia), it shows tomorrow’s workout today, and I need to manually select the correct workout (after checking the app for the number). I’ve filed a bug report.
- It’s a pity that it doesn’t auto-name workouts—they just have names like “Monday run.” Garmin did this better by including the workout name.

@mando congratulations to the new watch!
Small hint:
You can include weather data by linking Klimat to your Suunto account. It can be totally customized and adds whatever weather information you want to your workout description -
@mando the time zone issue has been a long standing issue for me as well. I have reported it to the Tao developer about a year ago but they never managed to resolve it.

The lack of alerts for going out of zone as well as no alert for the end of the workout have all been raised multiple times in this forum and are Suunto issues rather than TAO. I’m still hopeful

The naming would also be really nice and, again, it’s a Suunto thing. You’ll notice there’s no reference to the workout anywhere in the suunto recorded activity.
The better pace info is most likely due to Suunto’s “FusedSpeed”

@far-blue Just another question, as I’m currently testing a Race S with TAO as well: if you shorten a step, with Garmin you just press the lap button and it will take you to the next step. Like having a 3.2km assessment and feel like dying after 2km…

With Suunto pressing the lower button does record a lap, but the guide just continues until the 3.2km are done.Is this the way it works? Is this a Suunto or TAO issue?
However, I do like the workout page on Suunto a lot better than on Garmin. More and useful data…
-
@2b2bff I’ve never actually tried shortening or skipping a step, tbh. I know sometimes the top and bottom buttons behave differently within a suuntoPlus app (compared to the normal workout pages) and technically guides are apps. So maybe it is the lap button but only when on the guide page.
-
@far-blue I’ve only tried to end the “run back” step and not others, but I can confirm you that this can be done by pressing the lap button on the Suunto guide screen
-
@far-blue at that occurance I’ve been on the guide page.
I’ve noticed another difference to Garmin in how the trainging works and I think that is related. In Garmin there is a lap recorded for each step of the training, if you dig in the FIT file. For Suunto the whole training is not split in laps. I guess that is why the lap button did not advance the Guide.
I asked TAO directly but no reply, yet. -
Sync with DrainAsOne doesn’t work anymore. Anyone else has this problem?

@Mitch9 works for me…

@Mitch9 have you recently tried to create some Suunto MyPlan? If I remember well, I’ve recently read in other threads that creating a Suunto MyPlan may interfere with syncing guides
