Live location S+ app
-
Happy Sunday everyone!
Here’s a little developer diary update:
I’m currently working on track loading and display on the built-in map. You’ll be able to upload tracks from GPX/KML files.Once a workout starts, the current track will be drawn on the map, and the app will show deviation from the preloaded route, projecting your position onto it.
In the future, this feature will also include:
- Alerts when significantly off-route,
- Customizable checkpoints and geofences with notifications if you don’t reach them in time,
- And many other improvements!
Here’s a short preview of the new feature in action:

@Nikolai-Simonov I have a question. If we turn on the Live T function with the watch only, without carrying a mobile phone, will it work?
-
@SODIUM no
-
@Egika OK thank you.
-
Great work @Nikolai-Simonov
This reduces the need of opening Komoot when get lost while navigating along a route quite a lot.
I can simply have a look at the map in your app and don’t need to waste battery for geolocation on the phone.
I often ended up on 2 or 3-way forks not nowing wich one to choose on the 9PP cause there are no maps. -
Used yesterday for the first time to test it out! What a great app! Thank you so much!
I wanted to confirm - on my phone - I would only see the current location? Is that correct? The link sent to the contact shows the route when I checked what my wife was able to see?
-
@larrybbaker Thanx for kind feedback!
Yes the in-app route display is currently available only in the TestFlight beta version. but not in the regular one.
-
@Nikolai-Simonov I’d be happy to be a beta tester if you need more
-
@larrybbaker There’s no limit for testers. Just follow the steps via link - https://testflight.apple.com/join/n3nqcarb

@Nikolai-Simonov perfect! Thank you!

First of all congrats for making this app for Suunto. For many of us it was sth, which was missing, when we go to trails - to have kind of buck up in case which we hope will never happen.Unfortunately for me, current implementation of live tracking as it is with you app and S+ is having 2 major downsides caused by in my understanding BT connections limitations. In my case these are observations based on Suunto Race S & iOS 18.5 - both official not beta:
-> first one: when you have live track active, you get no notifications form the phone to your watch. For me, when I go for a run, I get pretty often quite a lot of phone calls (kids, work), and few app notifications. Now, being able to to see who’s calling (my kids or someone who I don’t know), I know when I can answer the call on my headphones, and when I can call back. It is also matter of safety as I told my kids that if anything will happen during my run, they can call. But I’m not keen to answer calls related to work during my runsThis I will handle after workout.
-> second which in my case is deciding to do not use LT, and which I have noticed today during long run: when you have connection taken by LT, you cannot connect any HR belt to the watch
In case of any watch, I use hr belt, as OHR sensors are pretty ‘unstable’, especially when you do some intervals during the run. In case of Suunto, as a bonus, you’re loosing possibility to use Zone Sense, which is basing on the hr belt. For me, who trains based on zones, TBH it is must have to have hr readings from the belt, and very demanded to be able to train according to Zone Sense.
I don’t know, is it possible to get over this limitation, but I think that for quite a lot users, above might be a big problem.
