Option to Disable carousel UI effect (Race S, but for all)
-
Received this unwelcomed change in 2.39.20:
Enhanced UI visual effect (the zoom effect)
It would be great to have an option to disable this and go back to the style in 2.37 and earlier. The new carousel UI effect option is less readable, distracting and makes the watch feal cheaper. Not sure what advantage it provides.
I’m sure some here love it but just give us an option to turn it off. Thanks for considering.

@fritzbt2013 Suunto has been struggling with system slowness and lagging for some time, and now it’s starting to add some fancy things again.
A bit weird. -
@maszop Really? I own my SV for a year now and I haven’t seen any lag (The lag when the watch was launched was addressed with the first or second firmware update)
You can say that you like or not the carrousel effect but you can’t talk about lag. -
Can’t see any lag on my SV, but i’d agree, that i don’t like that effect. Should not have been necessary.
-
@cosme-costa The lag is gone because Suunto redesigned the UI to be simpler and less resource-intensive.
Effects like carousels and different text scales are a step in the opposite direction. -

Let me put it this way: Suunto managed to speed up the UI in a sustainable way, so that is it not affected from the carousel effect at all.

If you say so,
Effects like carousels and different text scales are a step in the opposite direction.
So, good people programming because they achieved it without lag. And text scaling is a good thing, isn’t it? I’m not a programmer, but I understand that before the watches had fixed text sizes and with text scaling it means that they could do text adapting depending on the screen, etc.
Now seriously, you are complaining about things that are not even there. If you want we can complain and discuss about the things that are missing or don’t work as they should or could be improved.
Regarding the OP, I like the new carrousel, its smooth and like the effect, it is more dynamic but if they add the option to diable it, I will welcome the option. BTW, at least in the SV, if you use the buttons and do not move very fast the effect is pretty minimal, you notice it when you move fast, because there is no lag.

As much as I don’t like it, I think it’s not going anywhere. I think it’s inspired by the crown, and from this perspective - it makes visual sense.
Also, while scrolling the carousel, upper and lower elements are now scaled down, so more of them can be seen and not be obscured by the screen curvature. I suppose it looks nice on high resolution AMOLED displays. Not so much on small MIP.

In early versions of the software (the lagged ones), full versions of widgets were displayed, now they are displayed in a list and only from this list the full single widget is loaded.
I am amazed by the selective memory of forum users. Especially when it comes to some problems
-
@maszop Are you referring to the Suunto 9PP and Vertical widgets, that initially were scrolling horizontally? Like in S9B? Then I fully agree with you.
I had the Race and Race S in mind. Their menus did not change afaik but scolling speed has been increased massively with firmware update.
-
Oh boy, release day firmware for 9PP was pure sloth. Few second freezes were the norm - even during the workouts. It had an early beta vibes in the optimization realm.
Now, there are some slowdowns here and there - especially if data fields are not populated and being loaded during scrolling - but it’s night and day compared to early versions.

The one from the Vertical wasn’t much better either.
