My Vertical Titanium Solar is a mistake
-
I was addressing my concern to customer care - zero attention.
I was posting comment in Suunto Facebook group. No one answers.
Now, when my Suunto stopped synching with the app sleep and HR I am trying my luck here. Even after my watch was changed for new after complains in guarantee period, nothing changed, and I would like to get any response from customer care. Any.
And these are my previous complains.
Suunto Vertical is the biggest possible disappointment you experience as soon as you open the box. To be precise, you are initially happy because Vertical has a great design, but once you turn it on, you see that the colourful screen looks good only in advertisements. There are no colours. The contrast indoors does not allow you to read messages properly. The limited selection of watch faces with restricted customization options is also very disappointing. Moreover, I quickly found out that in the shower, your phone will be switched on by droplets, and after bathing, you will find strange data on the watch.
Further despair sets in when you find out that a PC is not usable. No route planning. No error correction. Everything is on mobile, and it is inconvenient, and the app is not very functional. Then synchronization. Every morning you want to check the weather when you wake up. The phone is charging nearby, the watch is on your wrist. But they do not communicate, and you must synchronize manually. Very inconvenient. In fact, because of this, the phone widgets are constantly “empty”. They just do not receive information from the watch. Sometimes you see the steps taken in the morning only in the evening, and sometimes you do not see them at all, because even after entering the app, it takes 10 minutes to fill in not the latest data, but the whole week.
The next disappointment is GPS. It is so inaccurate that I started experiments and at the same time I walk with Komoot GPS on Samsung S22 and S24 phones (I changed the phone during the use of the watch). Suunto constantly shows that I am walking next to the road, while on the phone everything is OK. Moreover, when starting to move with GPS, Suunto often does not want to start working and requires manual synchronization. I have pictures of this, so can prove it anytime.
Then - the watch sensors. According to this watch, my average sleep is 4:33 minutes. This is nonsense. It just shows that, and I cannot do anything about it. And if I went to the toilet in the middle of the night, the watch thinks I am no longer sleeping and counts only one part of the night. Before or after the toilet.
According to this watch, I am “walking” even in the shower, because while washing my head, I see the step count increasing. A little shake of the hand and plus ten steps are guaranteed. None of my watches, and I had Samsung, Polar, and Fitbit, had so strange step count.
And the biggest disappointment - the battery. The watch lasts about 2 weeks. Tried with various levels of load, with GPS on and off, charging in the sun during hikes in Spain, etc. 2 weeks is possible maximum. Even if GPS is constantly off, and it is a sunny summer outside. That solar battery is just a marketing trick. Customer care said that my watch load is probably extraordinary, but I have almost all notifications turned off. I only receive SMS and notifications from a few apps. Therefore, the actual operation of the watch battery has nothing to do with the promises.
In fact, all these functional discrepancies contradict both the advertising material and the technical data on the manufacturer’s website. Once my watch was replaced under warranty, but absolutely nothing changed. It is clear that these are technical parameters, and I am very sorry that I can no longer get my money back. The watch was not cheap, so it is probably no surprise that I am dissatisfied and angry.
And the latest problem I’ve mentioned earlier – HR and sleep data does not reach an app. I’ve double checked the watch, the sensors are switched on. The diodes are ok. But there is nothing in sleep, bmp and resources graphs. So, another day, another problem. -
@Liutauras-Elkimavicius sorry this is your experience. First of all, if you want to reach Suunto support or customer care, use the app feedback options, this is a community forum.
Second, my experience is so different from yours. I have a Vertical too, GPS is outstanding, and in January because I could not train much I got a full month of battery life on a single charge. -
@Liutauras-Elkimavicius hey
how you set your sleep in the watch?! What Firmware you use on watch?
-
I am sorry for you, my Vertical is my favourite watch all time, it’s perfect for me !
If you want some help from the community, ask for help on this forum with less big complains and more precises questions it’s easier for us. -

There are no colours. The contrast indoors does not allow you to read messages properly.
This is a MIP screen with only 280 colors, get an AMOLED watch if you want more (Suunto Race). Make sure you have the backlight set so you can see the screen when you raise your wrist.
The limited selection of watch faces with restricted customization options is also very disappointing.
I like the watch faces and prefer them uncluttered.
Further despair sets in when you find out that a PC is not usable. No route planning. No error correction. Everything is on mobile, and it is inconvenient, and the app is not very functional.
If you have a Mac or iPad you can use the entire screen. Mine works perfectly on the computer or iPad. So if your PC is unusable a Mac will fix that.

Many 3rd party reviewers note the Vertical is probably the most precise of most watches. As good or better than any on the market today. I can provide the links. Do you have a current AGPS loaded in the watch? Phones use cell towers and wifi to aid in determining location, watches do not do this except the Apple Watch.
Do you have sleep set up properly?

I only receive SMS and notifications from a few apps. Therefore, the actual operation of the watch battery has nothing to do with the promises.Don’t know how you use it but mine lasts a lot longer. I do about 12-15h of GPS enabled exercise per week.
And the latest problem I’ve mentioned earlier – HR and sleep data does not reach an app. I’ve double checked the watch, the sensors are switched on. The diodes are ok. But there is nothing in sleep, bmp and resources graphs. So, another day, another problem.
Again, there is a current bug that will be fixed soon. If all is configured properly a soft reboot will fix this.

@Liutauras-Elkimavicius first post and all you come with is anger.
I don’t know how you set up your watch and how you chose it, but reading reviews first or specs would have certainly led you to another choice.
Most of your complains are non-sens regarding large majority of users experience with SV.
Sorry for your experience with your watch. You should return it or sell it aftermarket. -

Thats the Problem in this suunto Forum. If someone say Something what isnt in the meaning from admin Users than all here IS non-sense. Its his Feeling. Whatever - he should say his bad Feeling Here Like everyone Else. And shouldnt critisized here like this way!!!
Help him Not critisized him! -
@Brad_Olwin good answer
-
@GiPFELKiND but coming with even not a « hello » doesn’t help. Maybe my post was a bit « hard », but I can’t advice anything else here but returning the watch.
(I’m not admin by the way neither Suunto related or tester. And I try to help as much as I can)
Again : considering the complains and the way they are expressed, my best advice is to send the watch back. -
Often the behaviour here in the forum is not to find arguments to optimise things for an existing problem or expectation, but to answer that other brands especially Garmin have problems too.
That’s annoying for me, because there always is the possibility to make things better.

Isn’t it the current normality nowadays?
-
@GiPFELKiND Starting a message with “my Vertical is a mistake” is bound to trigger a defensive reaction from those who are satisfied with their watch. While the device may have some issues, it’s clear that the main challenge often lies between the shoes and the watch.
-
@pilleus It all depends on how the initial message is framed. Often, people summarize their opinion with “Garmin is much better, blah blah blah,” which naturally triggers the kind of responses you don’t appreciate. However, from what I’ve seen, deeper discussions on key issues are also taking place.
-
If your watch doesn’t synchronise in the background with the app, then maybe there is an issue with the permissions for SA on your Android phone.
-
If there’s his experience and opinion I can read it and accept it. My experience may be completely different. If I argue in all the points in a different way, his experience will not change. So it’s not needed to do so.
There are a lot of watches out there with different pros and cons.
It’s not my intention to compare Suunto with other brands. I use three Suunto watches despite the existing bugs and problems. These watches work for me and sometimes I use other brands for sleep tracking or the possibility to change sensors within an activity.
-
@GiPFELKiND I’m just a regular user and not an administrator and this opinion is my personal opinion and is in no way related to Suunto. I myself had quite a few problems with all my watches, but I used the Suunto forum for help and looked for the opinion of other users. Suunto of course has room for improvement, but you have to realize that what doesn’t suit you doesn’t mean it’s bad or miserable. There is no perfect watch, there are only those that are optimal for us personally.

I think there are different “levels”
Acceptance: of another’s opinions (or deeds) is the basic level, the foundation of communication. I can accept people who can have very different opinions and let them be with their opinions. And sometimes that’s all one can do.
Discussing: when it comes to “discussing” opinions and interpretations there can be conflict and in the end this leads at best to a higher level of insight for all involved.I think most of users here can accept the anger, if something does not work. But saying, that the Vertical does have a bad GPS is a actually a quite quick discussion topic: either the OP’s device is defective or he must doing something severely wrong.
