Product Feedback: Poor Haptic/Vibration Motor
-
Hello Suunto-Team,
I’m unsure if your product team collects product feedback through this forum, but I wanted to try.
I recently purchased a Suunto Race S Titanium Courtney to replace my Apple Watch Series 9. I was generally pleased with most aspects of the device, but I had to return it because I couldn’t get over how bad the haptic feedback/vibration motor is on this device.
The vibration felt like a machine gun against my wrist and was so loud that you could easily hear it while sitting beside me. (You could also say it felt like a Nokia 3210 strapped to my wrist…) Besides being a tracker for swimming, hiking and running, my use case for a modern fitness-/smartwatch is receiving notifications and alarms. Unfortunately, I cannot use the device for this purpose due to the noisy and uncomfortable vibration.
A friend of mine uses a Xiaomi Smart Band 9, which has a much more discreet and gentle vibration that is unnoticeable by the surrounding people and very comfortable on the wrist. This device costs 35 euros. So, I really don’t think that a more refined, modern vibration motor can be too expensive when purchasing it from Chinese suppliers.
I hope Suunto will consider integrating a better motor in the future because, with that, it would have been the perfect product for me.
Have a great day!

As I understand, all Titanium models from Suunto seems to suffer from this,
Its a pity they didn’t learn anything between the Titanium 9 peak pro and the Race S.
c’mon, its not that hard ? no ? -
Maybe all the models mount the same vibration unit, but the effect is bigger on the titanium versions, which is lighter.

@Elipsus @Stefano-M64 So, you are saying that it is known to be less of a problem on the stainless steel version?
-
@Elipsus My titanium Race S vibrates with less intensity than the SS model. What the OP describes I observe on 9PP but not on any model since.

Maybe my perception of the vibration is just different but I’ve certainly not found the vibration overly loud or intrusive on my steel Race S. I’d personally say it’s pretty spot on for my needs because it’s noticeable enough to feel during an activity while the watch is worn over a long-sleeve top in winter but not so loud that other people would notice in a meeting when I receive a notification.
