Merge recording from Aqua and Watch?
-
Setup:
- Vertical, 2.43.12
- Aqua, whatever the latest is
- S+ S Aqua Swim enabled, headphones connected before swim
Outcome:
Two swims recorded.Desired outcome:
One combined swim.Is there a way to achieve this, as we’ve seen in the screenshots?
Apologies if already answered: I couldn’t find anything using search.

@Ze-Stuart not today unfortunately. What’s happening here is that when Aquas lose connection with watch due to Bluetooth not working in the water, Aquas by default go into recording swimming mode on their own like if you didn’t bring your watch. This behavior is noted as expected in the Aqua user manual. I got tired of it and now I don’t use S+ Aqua anymore, just listen to offline music while swimming.

@herlas thanks! I thought that might be it. I remembered reading about that the watch connection requirement and how there’s no way to maintain connection with the watch, at all.
Such an odd engineering decision to have them sync with the watch at the start, but not the end… disconnected headphones, disconnected thinking!

I had a look at the fit file from the Aqua, thinking maybe I could use fitfiletools’s file combiner, but the file is basically a stub:
MessageType,MessageName,CreateTime,productName,productName,manufacturer,fileType, 0,FileId,1751386926.0,Suunto Aqua,63,23 SUUNTO,4, MessageType,MessageName,timestamp,event,type, 21,Event,1751385554,Timer,start, MessageType,MessageName,timestamp, 20,Record,1751385554, 20,Record,1751386926, MessageType,MessageName,timestamp,event,type, 21,Event,1751386926,Timer,stop, MessageType,MessageName,timestamp,startTime,total,elapsed,sport,subSport,TimeInPwrZone,TimeInHRZone,TSS,type, 18,Session,1751386926,1 Jul 2025 16:59,22:52,22:52,5 Swimming,18 openWater,,,21 tss,stop, MessageType,MessageName,timestamp,local time,NoSessions,Activity,event,type, 34,Activity,1751386926,1 Jul 2025 17:22,1,0,activity,stop,
Such a shame. So close to creating something new and great, but another half-finished piece of electronics on the heap. It really winds me up when companies do this!

@Ze-Stuart yep, basically instead of recording on its own, it should’ve been designed to behave like Suunto smart sensor, that stores data in internal memory and then syncs after the workout. Missed opportunity on that front
