And Suunto does it again: mid-activity crash on Suunto Race
-
New behaviour today with Race S: It crashed directly after starting an activity. Better than in the mid, but still…
Latest Firmware -
@VoiGAS in my experience the crashes with 2.44.52 are random, during or outside of activity doesn’t matter. No crash since 2 days with 2.44.46
-
@halajos Maybe just the reset to factory settings did the trick? Hard to say I guess…
-
@VoiGAS no, I did a hard reset before the downgrade. Didn’t help.

Update: my watch started crashing recently also with sw. version 2.44.46. Time to send it in for service

Hi,
SUUNTO RACE S user here, w/ 2.44.52 firmware version.
I’ve bought the watch this Sept 2025, and since it has crashed multiple times (re-boot with suunto logo and then home screen), mostly on map navigation, but not only.
Today I went on a trail run and it was practically non-usable, had crashed multiple times every time I had set up route navigation (both as an activity and as naviagtion-only).
Any resolutions here in the crowd for the issue? Is there a comment from SUUNTO’s side about the issue?
Thanks!

@Liad-Bela I think you should reach out for Suunto support. Possibly you have a defective watch…
-
@Liad-Bela I have the same issue, since June 25. I contacted Suunto support. After a few weeks of discussion they asked me to send logs and told me the issue would be solved with the last update. The update didn’t change anything, I can’t use the navigation screen, the watch crashes within 30 mins of activity, sometimes less. I kept Suunto support aware of the situation and got excuses but no solution (they did say that the problem was being investigated).
-
Race S, yesterday watch froze after I tried to resume the activity. Restart helped, but it never happened until now.
-
Today, my Race crashed again mid activity…

This seems to be an unsolvable task for Suunto developers…Working in programming myself, this is so devastating to me. The current generation of developers has either “lost it” or gets pushed by management to skip proper coding techniques and tests.
The bare minimum I expect is that they read the logs and find the problem and fix it.

@Olaf-Gottschalk might you have a hardware fault? My Race v1 is on its way to the service center. It crashed randomly in and out of exercise, showing error codes in the debug menu.

No, I doubt it. Never seen anything like that. The crashes I experience most likely are pure software faults.
No error codes - never, anywhere.
If Suunto wanted to replace my unit, that would be fine for me but they never did. And I am not willing to be their guinea pig, so there must be evidence that points towards hardware issues. -

Are you saying that you have already sent the watch to customer service requesting a replacement/check due to the faults and that they refused to do so?

@Olaf-Gottschalk It might be software it might be hardware, that impacts software crash, but I think what this forum trying to tell you, that having crashes like that so often is not really normal and nobody else gets that. So you should contact Suunto and get it replaced or fixed. (Of course if you already tried that and was denied, I understand your frustration)
