Hi everyone, I really need some advice regarding navigation. Today I followed the route shown in the photo. As soon as I reached the point where the roads intersect, the navigation went haywire. At first, it seemed fine—the blue arrow was showing the way, and the segment indicated about 10 km to the destination (then 9 km), so I thought everything was on track. However, after a few kilometers, I realized I was riding along the same roads I had already covered. The watch registered that I was heading in the opposite direction. It completely messed up the ride. Am I doing something wrong? How should I set it up so it navigates correctly?1000026812.png

@Miroslava I’ve had similar experiences multiple times. Suunto navigation simply can’t handle navigation routes that overlap, intersect, or partially retrace in any way. It tries to be smart, but its “smartness” fail and does opposite to what I want 95% of the time.

Really, Suunto navigation only works somewhat reliable for the most basic point to point or loop routes, and even then I’ve seen it multiple times to spontaneously reverse direction without any kind of notification. Even for a loop route, a few months ago it managed to send me in the reverse direction vs. what I had planned, and I realized that only after a few miles.

And regarding your question, there is no option to turn this “smart” behavior off. There is simply no way to tell it to just follow the route as planned.

@sky-runner Thanks. I know you’re the one who has often complained about route crossings, so I was hoping you’d be the one to advise me on what to do about it. Many of the routes I run cross over themselves—sometimes multiple times—and it’s quite frustrating. I don’t know why it didn’t alert me at all that I was off-track or moving in reverse; it ruined the whole run for me. Suunto really needs to do something about this urgently.

Considering the timeline of the complaints and suggestions, I don’t think anything will be done urgently even for new watches, let alone for older ones.
Another thing, when I see screenshots like this, it would be nice to finally implement Slovak language support…

@Squirrel I know, but where else can I write that it’s not working the way it should? The Suunto forum is the only place. Yes, Slovak would certainly be great 🙂 I think quite a few people from Slovakia use Suunto, but fortunately, Czech is almost the same.

Suunto support maybe? Maybe not that helpful as the forum, but at least the official channel…

Writing it here on the forum will only be read by other suunto users. Not by suunto support or developers.

                  Mail your complaint to support@suunto.com

Have to say, reality is that even then, not much is done with it. They may say it’s faulty hardware and offer a replacement watch. If you push some more, they might say they have forward the report to the developers and they will keep you informed if there is news. You never going to hear from it.

@elbee Thanks guys, I’ll try contacting support too, but clearly I’m not the only one with this problem.

@Miroslava no of course you are not alone, since it is kind of functionality of the watch. It is not ideal for sure, I am just happy that I rarely use interconnected routes or when I do I know the route 🙂 but definately happened few times.
