Suunto AI Coach discussion

@pavel.samokha Thanks, had no time to watch it, will do!

My concerns on the Suunto AI are:
For many things, I think people should learn to figure out their own conclusions based on the data. At about 1:45 in the video, there’s a basic “how is my training going” question that one should be able to answer for themselves based on the data Suunto already provides, without the need to invoke an LLM and get possible hallucinations on the data.
Later in the video, it shows another use of the LLM to create new routes. I think this is a bit more useful, but again, I think users should not simply accept these recommendations blindly. I often travel to cities I have not been in before and want running routes from my hotel into urban areas or nearby parks, but will the LLM keep me away from problematic traffic intersections, or warn me about park operating hours, etc? I suspect not, and those details I’d need to confirm on my own.
So as usual with an LLM, if you ask it to be the “writer” for you, then you need to be the “editor” and verify what you’re told makes sense and is relevant to you.
As for costs, I think it’s weird that’s not already decided. What I’d hope for is a basic free tier with limited usage per month; if I wanted to use it to help with my occasional trip (say 3-4x a year), I’d be easily in limits and this is the sort of thing one can do with free tiers of other LLMs like Claude, ChatGPT, etc. Then have additional tiers beyond that for high data use, as obviously the service costs. However, a philosophy of “this is a tool more for new people to learn what the app provides, and occasional use for a few extras,” rather than an implied, “you’ll never be successful without this” would have been more appreciated.

@Impulso this is working for me (with Claude + OAuth): https://mcp.suunto.com/open/mcp
-
@usainzg you are correct, it works, not sure if released officially or not though

-
@isazi also w EU accounts?
https://mcp.suunto.cn/mcpguide -
@Maryn no this is the China one
-
@isazi Is there another option available for EU accounts?
-
@isazi I just tried it and it works good for workouts, but the wellness data fails to load. I guess it will work once launched officially! Looks good!
-
@Maryn it is literally mentioned in the post I replied too

-
MCP works great with Claude. I’m not really an AI fan, but it helps me a lot with context, and since I have to pay for Claude anyway for a project, I can at least make use of it until Suunto AI is available to everyone.

-
@martintrail I just connected to ChatGPT. Let’s see how it works in practice.
-
Approximately how much does it cost? (Roughly)
-
@Kraisun-Tunta this is free, it is just an API to access your data
-
The current tool list is brief and limited to read-only access:
- Get recovery summary
- List user workouts
- Get sleep summary
- List user routes
- Get route summary
- Get current user profile
- Get workout detail
- Get daily activity summary
Several items yield inconsistent data or less than what is described:
- Sleep stages, score, HRV and heart rate, but each night appears dozens of times, mixed with partial snapshots.
- Recovery - only body-resource % and stress state every 30 minutes. It doesn’t include HRV or resting HR despite what the tool says.
In comparison, the Garmin MCP has 157 tools, Suunto 8 for now. So fingers crossed.

the Garmin MCP has 157 tools
I don’t think Garmin has an official MCP. There are third parties, but they’re unofficial, so in theory they could be blocked any day.

@pavel.samokha This is not what Joaquin is saying here: https://youtu.be/Fix3UdOd5Y4?t=1014
Based on Joaquin video, Suunto is using their user’s data to train Suunto AI. -
@LGoSo official video is above and confirms Suunto doesn’t use your data to train AI models used in Suunto AI coach.
-
Any chances Suunto reconsiders the rollout plan?

-
@pavel.samokha So Joaquin is wrong. Perhaps someone at Suunto should tell him as he is part of Suunto team according to his youtube summary.
-
@LGoSo hi can you explain me the problem? I can explain you
